Commons Brewery 3rd Anniversary on December 6th

Back in the summer of 2010 Mike Wright took the leap from home brewing to open one of Portland’s first nano-breweries, Beetje Brewing. Setting up shop in the garage of his Southeast Portland home, Wright began brewing on his not so quite 1.5 barrel system. Having found an appreciation for Belgian style beers, Wright took aim at this style.

The Beetje BreweryWright hit the limelight so to speak when Urban Farmhouse Ale had its inaugural tapping during Brewpublic’s Microhopic 2 at Bailey’s Taproom in early September of 2010. Those in attendance took notice of his light, thirst quenching Belgian inspired beer. As his beers became more and more popular he realized that he would need to find a larger space and a much larger brew system.

It was in December 2011 when Wright unlocked the doors to his new brewery in Inner Southeast Portland. Now with a new name, The Commons Brewery, and a much larger brew system he was ready to take on the challenge of eventually leaving his day job as an IT Manager for Multnomah County into a full time brewing position.

Since this time Wright has hired a few solid brewers and a support staff that are all at the top of their game. The brewery has also taken the national and the world stage after winning awards at World Beer Cup and GABF. With this continued success The Commons Brewery will soon be leaving their current location for their new brewery early next year at SE Belmont and SE 7th.

But before doing so, The Commons will be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary on December 6th from 2:00 to 9:00pm. The taplist that they have put together is one not to miss. There will be a mix of a few favorites from the cellar, a few debut beers (including a special Imperial Stout made specifically for this event) and some sessionable mainstays.

The opening taplist at 2:00pm will consist of the following 8 beers.

  • Urban Farmhouse  – Our flagship saison has been on tap 1 everyday the brewery has been open for business.
  • Buckwheat Grissette – Belgian table beer with Buckwheat and Brettanomyces.
  • Trillium – Blended farmhouse ale aged in Pinot Noir barrels with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, Brettanomyces Lambicus and house grown cultures.
  • 3rd Anniversary Stout – Imperial Stout featuring 10 different malts aged in Bourbon barrels previously containing Bourbon Little Brother and Brotherly Love.
  • 2014 Bourbon Little Brother – Sneak preview of our popular winter bottle seasonal. Belgian Dark Strong Ale partially aged in Bourbon barrels.
