Forty years ago today, two brothers, Don and Bill Younger purchased what is now known as Horse Brass Pub. From the very beginning Horse Brass Pub served beers that expanded the palate years before the microbrew movement hit the Pacific Northwest. From the lauded Halibut Fish and Chips to the now 59 beers on tap, Horse Brass Pub is a true institution here in Portland. It’s a spot that all visitors on a craft beer trip should seek out.

Beginning today, November 1st and running through Sunday, November 6th, Horse Brass Pub will celebrate its 40th Anniversary. Of course with this occasion there will be many special beers being poured. Two have been brewed just for the 40th anniversary. One that is returning is Don the Younger from Russian River Brewing. This beer was brewed five years ago for the pub’s 35th anniversary. And the official Horse Brass Anniversary Ale is being brewed by one of Don’t favorite breweries, Rogue Ales.
