With this Sunday’s MLS Cup Final Match that places our Portland Timbers on the national stage when the team travels to Columbus to play the Columbus Crew, one of our local breweries has placed a nice, friendly wager on the match. Widmer Brothers Brewing has placed a bet with Columbus Brewing on which team will prevail on Sunday. We will soon see which brewery will be brewing a beer in honor of the winning club!

Here’s more from Widmer’s press release…

Two craft breweries placed a friendly wager today on the outcome of the MLS Cup Final Match this Sunday, December 5, between the Portland Timbers and Columbus Crew SC.

Portland, Oregon’s Widmer Brothers Brewing and Columbus, Ohio’s Columbus Brewing Company bet that their respective teams will win, and the losing brewery must host the winner to brew a collaborative beer named in honor of the winning team. The host brewery will facilitate the brewing process at their brewery and provide the ingredients.

Both breweries have ties to their local MLS teams, with Widmer Brothers Brewing being a 15-year partner of the Portland Timbers. Earlier this year, the Timbers and Widmer Brothers announced the largest co-branded product launch between a craft brewery and a MLS team. The best-selling craft beer in Oregon – Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen – is “The Official Craft Beer of the Portland Timbers” and has featured Portland Timbers co-branded packaging for the 2015 MLS Regular and Post Season.
