Though we are only a little over a month into winter, Bend, OR based 10 Barrel Brewing has just released its new Spring Seasonal, Easy Black IPA. The latest from 10 Barrel is available in 12oz and 22oz bottles and on draft.

10 Barrel Easy BlackForgoing the other classification of this beer style, Cascadian Dark Ale, 10 Barrel chose the more challenging Black IPA classification. The brewery says that its “A Session Black IPA that’s seriously difficult to brew but refreshingly easy to drink!”

We say its quite easy to drink too. Easy Black IPA pours a deep, rich black color and offers up some solid roasty malt characters that explode with a hop wallop from the 5 hops that were used.

How did this new beer come about? According to the brewery “To change it up for our next seasonal we split our brewers into four teams and laid down the challenge to come up with our Spring Seasonal beer. 3 weeks later we held a blind taste test competition in the brewery to decide the winner. It was close but our Brewmaster, Jimmy Seifrit prevailed with his Session Black IPA.

Why did they call it Easy Black IPA? Jimmy said “Easy Money” when he heard about the competition. Sometimes the Brewmaster needs to step in and show the young guys why he’s the boss…
