The Portland Winterhawks have announced a new partnership with Portland based Widmer Brothers Brewing. Already a staple at the Moda Center, Widmer now makes it official by showing their support for our local hockey team, the Winterhawks.

To mark this partnership, Kurt and Rob Widmer, co-founders of Widmer Brothers Brewing, drop the ceremonial puck when the Everett Silvertips come to Portland on Saturday, January 31st. Prior to the 7:00pm puck drop at the Moda Center, come sample Widmer Upheaval IPA as the founders of Widmer will be pouring this now year-old IPA for all fans 21 year old or older in attendance.

This is also Mascot Night when Tom-A-Hawk invites his furry friends to join in the fun of the Winterhawks’ annual Mascot Night, with a mascot game on the ice during one of the intermissions. Tickets can be purchased here at Ticketmaster.

Winterhawk Hockey ChampionsThe Portland craft beer pioneers will be at the game to celebrate their newly formed sponsorship of the team, sample some of their Upheaval IPA with fans before the game, and drop a ceremonial puck.

The 2014/2015 season marks the start of the relationship between Widmer Brothers and the Portland Winterhawks. Upheaval IPA is the cornerstone of the partnership. The bold, unfiltered IPA will be pouring at the Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Collesium all season, and Upheaval will be highlighted every time the gloves drop during the game.

“Upheaval IPA is the perfect fit for the atmosphere at a Winterhawks game,” said Aaron Burget, Oregon marketing manager of Widmer Brothers Brewing. “The games are exciting and the crowd can get a little rowdy. Nothing better than a big, unfiltered IPA to go along with the game. Prost, to our partnership with the Portland Winterhawks!”

“Any Winterhawks fans who are beer aficionados won’t want to miss the chance to meet the Widmer brothers Sunday,” said Portland Winterhawks President Doug Piper.
Widmer Hopside Down
In other Widmer news, the brewery has re-introduced their successful Hopside Down India Pale Lager as their new spring seasonal. Available on draft and in 12oz bottle six and twelve packs across America.

Hopside Down is aggressively hopped for all the flavor and aroma of a traditional IPA, but cold-fermented with lager yeast for the crisp, clean character and finish of a lager. The hybrid style is a great fit for the spring season – hoppy and refreshing.

Hopside Down IPL was most recently available early last year and was the best-selling release in the brewery’s now-retired Rotator IPA Series. Widmer Brothers is now introducing Hopside Down IPL as its new spring seasonal for 2015, replacing Columbia Common, which had been the spring seasonal for the prior two years.

“We are really looking forward to having Hopside Down back in our lineup,” said Rob Widmer, co-founder of Widmer Brothers. “Hopside Down is a delicious beer, and it’s perfect for spring. The beer features a heavy dose of Cascade hops. and the clean, crisp attributes of the lager yeast really allows the grapefruity-lemony-citrusy character of Cascades to shine through.”
