In all honesty, calling the beer terrible is a bit harsh. All of the beers are technically flawless. I think the marketing leaves something to be desired as well as the past lack of adventurism. I think in the future, you can expect more innovative brews from these guys.

Pyramid is terrible. I never purchase their beer even though a 22oz is $2. Tempting, but always a mistake.

Thank you for finally speaking out against the new marketing. It is the worst I think I have ever seen, and almost ruined the brand for me. The marketing appears to be geared toward 14-20 year olds, and it seems that the labeling/ naming is almost picked out before even tasting the beer, such as the Lip Stinger which is a deliscous beer, but the marketing doesn’t match the beer at all. Thomas and Vasilio are great brewers, I’m excited to see what new beers they come out with and I hope that marketing begins take a back seat.

I really couldn’t agree more. Total fail, despite a few decent beers. My friend works there, and they just seem to have their identity all wrong… or more specifically, no identity to speak of. There’s really no excuse.

couldnt agree more. Though no one is going to convince me Grifter was a good beer. Goosebumb and that chocolate stout they did were pretty good. But yeah what happened to the rumors I heard of doing a Bourbon Barrel Blackwatch again?
Glad to see them bring back the Imperial Hef if its the same one they did a few years ago. That was actually pretty good.
If they are so into wheat beers how about a Berliner-Weisse??

Jimmy, why is everyone so bitter about the CDA name? Who cares what its called as long as its good, thats what I say and I hope CDA wins. Cascadian Dark Ale is a mouthful but CDA is not. Lets win one for Cascadia.

“Cascadian Dark Ale”… you know why breweries are hesitant to use this term? Because it’s clunky, dorky and lame. I’ll bet you five bucks it’ll never catch on.

I’ve been very impressed with Pyramid’s beer sin the last year. I’ve liked the one-offs and their standards are…well, standard, at least. But promotion? Practically non-existent. Now granted, I’m as guilty as anyone to not hitting up their taproom (partially due to the location, partially due to a bad dining experience last time I was there that was related more to the weather than the establishment), but I don’t remember hearing about events out there at any point in the past.

They have solid beers, maybe people haven’t realized that yet and think they’re just part of a corporate juggernaut. Pyramid, get the word out and let your brewers loose and I guarantee that the beer geeks will warm (back) up to you.

I thought some of the newer beers, particularly the Lip Stinger and Hum Bugg’r, were very good and interesting beers, but overall I have to agree. They do have talented brewers there, and I wish they’d turn them loose a little more as opposed to releasing beers that sometimes seem like they were created by the marketing department and not by the brewers. I don’t know Tom Bliegh, but Vasili is an incredibly talented brewer, both technically and creatively.

Mac’s Amber is still a classic, but, Pyramid, let your brewers loose and they will deliver the goods.
