Beer Bloggers Conference 2011 – Weekend in Review

By Dan Culver

Day 2 ( With a bit of a recap of Day 1)

Here we are in full swing at the 2011 BBC as I take up where we left off with the evening of Day 1.  Being new to the blogging scene, personally this conference couldn’t have come at a better time.  I have to admit I was a little overwhelmed at first but once it got going and I realized how familiar I was with the topics at hand I started to feel at home.  It was also a little bit of a challenge to get to the conference Saturday morning after a bit of a late night starting with our dinner and tour of at the Goschi Hops Farm near Mt. Angel, OR. Read More…

Puget Sound Beer Adventures – Part 7 – Skagit River Brewery

By Dan Culver

Hello once again and greetings from the on-going series famously known as Puget Sound Beer Adventures.  For this particular adventure we made a stop at one of the great standby breweries of the Pacific Northwest.  In the pleasant  northwest Washington town of Mt. Vernon lies Skagit River Brewery.  It’s in a very convenient location for the I-5 traveler, you can actually see it from the 5 so there’s no excuse not to stop if you’re traveling in that area.  There is also a great pub in the same building as the brewery so lunchtime is very popular for locals and tourists alike.

We of course were there primarily for the beer but we also like to see where the magic happens.  With genuine hospitality and prompt assistance from manager Eric Lint we were able to catch Head Brewer Mike Armstrong and he was more than willing to show us around and talk about his latest brews.

Get In The Lupulin at Saraveza’s 2nd Annual IIPA Fest

Saraveza’s 2nd Annual IIPA Fest

Saraveza's 2nd Annual IIPA Fest Sponsored By Brewpublic

Hey, Hopheads, mark your calendars for July 16 and 17th for Saraveza‘s 2nd Annual IIPA Fest. Since two I’s are better than one, the award winning staff at one of Portland’s greatest craft beer havens will be serving up more than 20 Imperial India Pale Ales for your palate’s pleasure. In fact, some of the beers will even be IIIPAs, or as Boneyard Beer-folk like to call it: the TRIPA! Hops galore! IBU to the high heavens! Look for one-of-a-kind rarities at this lupulinpalooza! Saraveza will doubling up on the food, too, with housemade B.B.L.T.s (yes, that’s Bacon Bacon) and live music. Look for your “free jar” tickets the week before the festival.

This year’s event reveals some one-of-a-kind Imperial IPAs exclusive to this festival, as well as many rare and sought after specialties.
Here’s the list so far: Read More…

Six Great Summer Brews For The Solstice

The Bier Stein's Dave Stockenhaus (left) serves up some of the best brews in Oregon

When it comes to great summer beers, or just great brews in general, a top destination to fulfill your warm weather wishlist is The Bier Stein in Eugene, Oregon. Crowned by Beer West Magazine as having the best bottle selection on the West Coast, it’s hard to argue with the fact that The Stein has remained a solid resource for some of the region’s best brews since opening in 2005. The shop not far from the University of Oregon campus houses more than 1,000 different bottles of craft beer and ten unique rotating offerings on tap. Further, The Stein’s owner in Chip Hardy not only sells the good stuff – he brews it.

A huge part of the vibe at The Bier Stein can be attributed to Dave Stockhausen, the manager of the joint who is as knowledgeable and passionate about craft beer as anyone in the business. Stockhausen runs much of the daily operations at The Stein and is to thank for the execution of much of Hardy’s wonderful vision. We pulled Stockhausen aside from his duties for a moment to get a recommendation on a splendid mixed sixer of brews he has recently shelved at The Bier Stein. Here’s six beauts approved by Stockhausen that you might want to snag before they’re gone: Read More…

BrewPubliCrawl Highlights Division Street Craft Beer Corridor

Division Street Beer Sign

We have long believed that SE Division Street is one of Beervana’s best craft-beer corridors. We like it so much, we planned Oregon’s first Meet the Brewer Pub Crawl on this street. While we couldn’t feature every craft-beer friendly spot on Division, and chose to keep the distance walkable (our apologies to the bars east of 39th – maybe next year) we are certainly very fond of the the spots we do have. BrewPubliCrawl Year 2 features the four stops from last year – Victory Bar, Lompoc Hedge House, Bar Avignon, and The Beer Mongers – and the welcome addition of a near-Division fifth stop, Blitz Ladd. The full beer/brewer lineup for each of these stops can be found here. Here’s some thoughts on the five crawl bars you will be visiting during this Saturday’s BrewPubliCrawl:

Hanging Posters

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that maintaining Brewpublic has become more of a blogging endeavor. Still, I’ve got to bring you your content each day. What’s going on in Oregon beer? That’s for all of us to answer. My partner Aaron and I spent much of recent times getting the word out about Brewpublic’s latest Meet the Brewers Pub Crawl (aka BrewPubliCrawl) going down on Saturday March 19, 2011. This event will include a plentitude of choice Oregon craft brewers. We’re uber excited to aid in a fun event sponsored by Full Sail, Hopworks, Laurelwood, Widmer, Lompoc, Ninkasi, Southern Oregon Brewing, and 10 Barrel Brewing.

Tuesday wasn’t only $2 pint night at The EastBurn, it was also a night in which we Read More…
