Widmer Brothers’ Green & Gold Kölsch Inspiration of Diehard Member of Timbers Army Brewer

Abram Goldman-Armstrong, Kurt Widmer and Rob WIdmer Discussing Their New Beer Dedicated To the Timbers Army

By D.J. Paul

With the Portland Timbers’ third season in the MLS already in full force comes a new beer brewed specifically for the Timbers. Yes, Widmer Brothers Brewing has recently released a beer to pay tribute to America’s Portland’s favorite pastime, Timbers soccer.

The bottle and label design is quite appealing to any Timbers fan. The packaging features the Timbers axe logo on the bottle cap, Timbers Army seal on the side of the main label and 107ist seal on the neck label. The neck label states:

“We are RCTID. Each year the Timbers Army and 107ist host a homebrew competition, bringing out the best in what makes the Rose City great: craft beer, creativity, and a passion for the green and gold. Timbers Army homebrewer Abram “Abe” Goldman-Armstrong’s recipe was chosen and brewed by Widmer Brothers for you to enjoy as you cheer on your Timbers. Pints up Portland”

Blitz Sports Bar at 99W in Tigard, Oregon

You may have missed it, but Blitz Sports Bar opened a third location earlier this summer out in Tigard.

In the former home of Newport Seafood Grill, the new Blitz 99W (located at 10935 SW 68th Parkway on Hwy99W in Tigard) will feature much of the same elements that appeal to folks at their Pearl and Ladd locations. In the spacious 8,500 square foot venue, Blitz 99W offers a full bar and an expansive food menu that includes pizza, salads, burgers, sandwiches, pasta and more.  One obvious attraction to craft beer lovers is 99W’s 26 draft beers on tap that focuses heavily on the Northwest microbrews. Weekend In Review – Baseball and Beer in Seattle

Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington

I headed up to Seattle for the weekend to catch a couple baseball games. The American League leading Boston Red Sox were in town for a three game set against the ever-struggling hometown Mariners. Each year I try to make a point of taking in at least one game up in the Emerald City. Not only is Safeco Field (the ballpark where the Mariners play home games) one of the best places to catch a sporting event, but the city of Seattle offers a vast array of choice craft beer options. Like the beer options, the number of Red Sox fans each year seems to grow. In fact, it has been pointed to my attention that the Red Sox boast the greatest road attendance in the sport. And with the Mariners being so terrible this year, the sea of red in the crowd (a crowd with numbers that jump dramatically when teams like Boston and New York come to town) was more pronounced than I can ever remember it being.
