Yesterday on June 5, 2015, many craft cider industry insiders and media joined forces at Capitol Cider in Seattle to judge 145 ciders from 38 different cideries from throughout the Pacific Northwest. This judging took place for the 2nd Annual Pacific Northwest Cider Awards (PNWCA) that gave out awards in 14 different categories along with a “Best in Show” award.

This year the PNWCA handed out medals to 42 winning ciders from Washington, Oregon, Montana and British Columbia. The “Best in Show” medal was chosen from a second tasting made up of the gold medal recipients from each category and this award went to Salem, Oregon’s Wandering Aengus Ciderworks Bloom.

“We’re thrilled with the support we’ve seen from cidermakers and cider lovers at this second annual awards program and festival,” said Sherrye Wyatt, executive director of the Northwest Cider Association.  “The industry is growing so fast, so it’s exciting to see both established and new cideries doing great things. It’s also a really fun way to keep tabs on what regional cidermakers are up to. For example, this year we had 18 fruit cider and 19 hopped ciders entered, both of which are becoming big styles here in the Pacific Northwest.”
