5th Annual Cider Summit PDX Preview

Cider Summit Portland Header 2015

With the amazing growth that we have seen in craft cider it’s great to be in the Pacific Northwest that is home to many of the nation’s cider makers. We are also spoiled with many various cider events that take place throughout the year. The granddaddy of them all will return for its 5th year when Cider Summit PDX returns for its second year to The Fields Neighborhood Park in Northwest Portland on Friday, June 19th and Saturday, June 20th.

The 5th Annual Cider Summit PDX will feature an amazing amount of cider, which is now at over 190 ciders from 49 cider makers. These ciders available will extend beyond just the Pacific Northwest, as there will be ciders from 7 states and 6 countries. Over 75 ciders pouring this year have never been previously poured at event. This is a dream for cider lovers and an excellent opportunity for new fans to explore the world of cider.

5th Anniversary Cider Summit PDX“We believe we’ve created a unique event,” noted Ian Roberts of SBC.  “Interest in artisanal cider is exploding right now, and this event is the premier sampling opportunity for both the cider enthusiast and cider curious.”

“We are thrilled with our move to The Pearl,” added event co-founder Alan Shapiro of SBS Imports.  “We are grateful for the area’s cider community ongoing support as we work together to make this the region’s signature cider event.”

Hours for this year’s Cider Summit PDX will be from 3:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, June 19th and from Noon to 6:00pm on Saturday, June 20th. There will also be limited VIP tickets available for early entry on Friday at 2:00pm. More details on tickets are listed at the bottom of this article.

A brand new feature at the 2015 event will be the Fruit Cider Challenge sponsored by Oregon Fruit Products. Several of the participating cideries will produce pilot batches specifically for this event. Cider Summit PDX attendees will vote for their favorite of these 14 ciders during the festival with the winner of the inaugural Fruit Cider Challenge announced on Monday, June 22nd.

One of the cideries that should be on your radar is Hedgerow Cider from Dallas, Oregon. This new cidery opened in 2013 but already is known on the world stage. In February of this year, Hedgerow took home a Silver Medal with its Blue Butterfly Cider at the International Cider Awards at Burton on Trent, UK. After sampling this cider at this year’s Cider Rite of Spring we can say its one worth seeking out.
