Sea Cider Tasting @ By The Bottle

Please join us for a very special hard cider tasting event featuring the spectacular ciders from Sea Cider in British Columbia. We’ve been waiting to schedule this event since January. The hold up was actually one of the ciders. It has (or had) the word “rum” in it. It is bourbon/rum barell-aged and the alcohol content is big, so, state approvals were tedious. Now that we got the green light, let’s get in there!

If you are a cider enthusiast, you’ll want to mark this on your calendar in ink! Cider fan or not, this is an opportunity to try some of the best ciders pressed in North America, and they are not sold in Oregon.

We would love for you to join us, and Dan Frueh with Orcas Distributing, who turned us on to these ciders. Please, see the complete event description below, and save-the-date!

Cheers, By the Bottle

Sea Cider Tasting Menu

A cider is a fermented drink, like wine, but made from apples not grapes. Cider is a traditional farm product in many parts of the world.  It was once very popular in North America before Prohibition in the early 1900s. The ban on alcohol was short-lived, but most of the old cider orchards didn’t survive.  Sea Cider seeks to revive the artisan cider tradition.  Robust to delicate, still to sparkling, each Sea Cider label promises a balance of flavors and aromas.

The flavor profiles of each cider are quite different. First, you will sample an off-dry classic. A sour profile is next. Then, a tart cider gets the juices going. We finish the evening with a bourbon/rum flavored cider.

Pippins Newton Pippin apples give structure to this crisp and aromatic dry sparkling cider. Blended with Island grown apples such as Winter Bananas and Sunsets, the result is an aromatic medley of pineapple and fresh fruit notes.

Rumrunner (known as Prohibition in Washington)

Rumrunner is crafted with home-grown heritage apples including Winter Bananas and Winesaps. The apples were hand pressed using our traditional rack and cloth press, slowly fermented with Champagne yeast then aged in rum barrels. Notes of brown sugar and spice give complexity to this semi-dry sparkling cider.
