Date changed. This tasting is now scheduled for Friday March 9, 2012 5:30-7:30PM.
The good news is, the new date enabled Pacific Northwest Best Fish Company to be a part of our evening, so we will be sampling 10 Barrel’s super beers with some excellent seafood samples.

Do we have to do even more to get you to re-arrange your schedule? OK, how ’bout this? The tasting is FREE!!! Yes, my little darlings, free, free, free. See? Sometimes things get better when they don’t go as planned.

Join us on Friday along with Mark Carver, 10 Barrel’s Sales Director, and let’s get to sampling!
10 Barrel Tasting Menu

Oregon Brown

This is an event highlight. This is a brand new beer. It will only be available on draft at the tasting, and By the Bottle is the only place in Washington that’s pouring it.
A traditional American Brown, thrown through the ringer with a unique recipe twist.  A standard brown malt bill is augmented with Aromatic, Marris Otter, Cara-Crystal wheat, flaked barley, chocolate, and special roasted malt. Then it’s overloaded with Cascade, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Simcoe, and Chinook hops, leading to a complex battle of pine and citrus flavor and aromatics.

ABV 6.7%   IBU’s 68

ISA (India Session Ale)

*Available in 22oz bottles*

10 Barrel Brewing CoDeep gold with orange highlights, big citrusy aroma full of grapefruit and tangerine due to massive dry hopping, clean, crisp maltiness with a hint of sweetness, balanced bitterness is the result of the loaded late-kettle hop addition.

Malts: 2-row Pale, Honey malt, Wheat
Hops: Summit, Cascade, Centennial

ABV: 5.5   IBU’s:  51

S1NIST0R Black Ale

*Available in 22oz bottles*

*Gold Medal, 2011 World Beer Championships*

*Bronze Medal, 2009 Great American Beer Festival*

S1NIST0R Black Ale uses a special German dehusked black malt free of astringency, giving the beer a rich black color without the traditional dark beer characteristics. You will notice subtle hints of chocolate with an easy drinking balance on the back end.  In the glass the dark color may look intimidating to some, but don’t be fooled.  The unique combination of malts creates a very light body and smooth finish.

Malts: 2-row Pale, Carafa, Biscuit
Hops: Perle

ABV: 5.4%    IBU’s:  28

Apocalypse IPA
*Available in 22oz bottles*
*Silver Medal, 2011 World Beer Championships*

A Northwest American-Style IPA.  The color comes through as a deep gold with orange hues.  Fruity and citrusy hop aroma shines, with hints of pine resin.  The four hop flavor dominates, re-enforcing the aroma with more citrus, fruity and piney notes.  The malt character is clean and smooth with a unique toasted flavor from the Victory malt. A firm bitterness keeps it all together.  Apocalypse has a medium-bodied mouth feel, finishing crisp and dry, a very drinkable IPA.

Malts: 2-row Pale, Victory, Crystal
Hops: Horizon, Centennial, Amarillo, Cascade
ABV: 6.5%    IBU’s:  65

Zweekend in Review: Bend Zwickelmania 2012 (Part 1)

Britt at Boneyard Beer pouring samples off the zwickel for Zwickelmania IV

Presidents’ Day Weekend was highlighted by Zwickelmania, Oregon’s statewide open house event in which folks were welcomed into brewhouses to sample craft brewers’ wares, many direct from the brite tank nozzles, or zwickels. This year, we headed to Bend, Oregon, arguably the state’s most burgeoning city for artisan brew.

Recent growth makes Bend the champion of Read More…

Weekend In Review: Destination Bend, Oregon (Part Two) Deschutes Brewery, Boneyard Beer, 10 Barrel Brewing, Silver Moon Brewing

Boneyard co-founder Clay Storey at the taps

The weekend before last we found ourselves in Oregon’s largest town east of the Cascades. Here in Bend, we discovered a breadth of exceptional breweries. And, for a city with the same population as Asheville, North Carolina, which has been dubbed “Beer City USA”, Bend has more breweries. In the coming months, at least a handful of new breweries will emerge in Bend pushing it up to around 15 within the city.

In our last post about our most recent excursions in Bend, we mentioned the new on the scene GoodLife Brewing Co., which has been breaking ground into their 22,ooo square foot warehouse with some promising flavors, as well as the bursting at the seems Deschutes Brewery, which is at the top of Oregon’s players when it comes to artisan beer production. 10 Barrel Presents First Release in Small Batch Series – Precursor Imperial Red Ale

10 Barrel Precursor Imperial Red Ale

Bend, Oregon’s 10 Barrel Brewing is quickly winning over the hearts and palates of Northwest beer lovers. Not only do they have an all-star cast of beer makers including former Deschutes brewer Jimmy Seifrit, they are also growing at a rapid rate to increase capacity through an ongoing expansion effort that will bump them up to a 50-barrel brewery replete with barrel-aging abilities. In early 2012, 10 Barrel will take on Bend Brewing’s highly respected brewmaster Tonya Cornett to join the team, and not long after, you can count on another high profile Oregon brewer that we are not at liberty to disclose at this juncture.

As part of 10 Barrel’s ongoing expansion, the brewery has introduced a new lineup of Small Batch Series brews with the bigtime beer geek in mind. The first from SBS will be “Precursor”, an imperial red ale houses in a tidy corked and caged 750 ml bottle. Here’s the description from 10 Barrel on this new alluring brew: Read More…

10 Barrel Brewery to Continue with Inventive Recipes Through Expansion

10 Barrel's Mark Carver shows the blueprint for the new Bend brewhouse

More details of the new 50 barrel brewhouse at 10 Barrel Brewing (no, they are not going to change the name) in Bend, Oregon have been divulged. We spoke with our friend Mark Carver, who is the brand manager for the company, and learned some of the exciting details regarding the new undertaking. Carver says that despite the energy drain of  trying to keep up with the momentum of Apocalypse (IPA), Sinistor (Black Ale), and ISA,  the brewing staff “are encouraged and given the freedom and resources needed that enable them to design and bring to reality countless new twists, turns, and whacky ideas and intuitions of the brewing science”,  adding ” Not all of them reach the “public pallate” of course, but as I was talking to (brewmaster) Jimmy (Seifrit) yesterday he puts it in “timely world series”  perspective when he says…”you can’t get a hit unless you step up to the plate and take a swing or two..”"  Four of the beers the team designed Read More…
