Do we have to do even more to get you to re-arrange your schedule? OK, how ’bout this? The tasting is FREE!!! Yes, my little darlings, free, free, free. See? Sometimes things get better when they don’t go as planned.

Join us on Friday along with Mark Carver, 10 Barrel’s Sales Director, and let’s get to sampling!
10 Barrel Tasting Menu

Oregon Brown

This is an event highlight. This is a brand new beer. It will only be available on draft at the tasting, and By the Bottle is the only place in Washington that’s pouring it.
A traditional American Brown, thrown through the ringer with a unique recipe twist.  A standard brown malt bill is augmented with Aromatic, Marris Otter, Cara-Crystal wheat, flaked barley, chocolate, and special roasted malt. Then it’s overloaded with Cascade, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Simcoe, and Chinook hops, leading to a complex battle of pine and citrus flavor and aromatics.

ABV 6.7%   IBU’s 68

ISA (India Session Ale)

*Available in 22oz bottles*

10 Barrel Brewing CoDeep gold with orange highlights, big citrusy aroma full of grapefruit and tangerine due to massive dry hopping, clean, crisp maltiness with a hint of sweetness, balanced bitterness is the result of the loaded late-kettle hop addition.

Malts: 2-row Pale, Honey malt, Wheat
Hops: Summit, Cascade, Centennial

ABV: 5.5   IBU’s:  51

S1NIST0R Black Ale

*Available in 22oz bottles*

*Gold Medal, 2011 World Beer Championships*

*Bronze Medal, 2009 Great American Beer Festival*

S1NIST0R Black Ale uses a special German dehusked black malt free of astringency, giving the beer a rich black color without the traditional dark beer characteristics. You will notice subtle hints of chocolate with an easy drinking balance on the back end.  In the glass the dark color may look intimidating to some, but don’t be fooled.  The unique combination of malts creates a very light body and smooth finish.

Malts: 2-row Pale, Carafa, Biscuit
Hops: Perle

ABV: 5.4%    IBU’s:  28

Apocalypse IPA
*Available in 22oz bottles*
*Silver Medal, 2011 World Beer Championships*

A Northwest American-Style IPA.  The color comes through as a deep gold with orange hues.  Fruity and citrusy hop aroma shines, with hints of pine resin.  The four hop flavor dominates, re-enforcing the aroma with more citrus, fruity and piney notes.  The malt character is clean and smooth with a unique toasted flavor from the Victory malt. A firm bitterness keeps it all together.  Apocalypse has a medium-bodied mouth feel, finishing crisp and dry, a very drinkable IPA.

Malts: 2-row Pale, Victory, Crystal
Hops: Horizon, Centennial, Amarillo, Cascade
ABV: 6.5%    IBU’s:  65

Shawn Kelso to Leave Barley Brown’s to Assume Position with 10 Barrel Brewing

Brewer Shawn Kelso

10 BarrelThe Oregon craft beer world witnessed another brewer shakeup this week as Barley Brown’s head brewer Shawn Kelso announced that he will step down from his post at the Baker City, OR Brewpub to assume a position with the rapidly growing 10 Barrel Brewing Co. of Bend, OR.

Kelso, an accomplished brewer with multiple medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup – perhaps most notable was his 2010 gold medal at GABF for Barley Brown’s Turmoil CDA- will help with 10 Barrels expansion efforts into Boise, ID.

After 11 years at Barley Brown’s, Kelso, a native of Baker City, says the move to Boise, about 120 miles east, is a “better opportunity for me and my family.” 10 Barrel looks to open a new facility in Idaho with a bottling line. Further, the veteran brewer will be doing some commuting to Bend to aid in brand development. “I will also have a presence in Bend.” he says.  Other notable brewers at 10 Barrel include brewmaster Jimmy Seifrit, formerly of Deschutes Brewery, and Tonya Cornett of Bend Brewing. “It’s a cool opportunity to be a part of a team who is very accomplished in the industry.”  Oregon Brewmaster (L to R): Bend Brewing's Tonya Cornett, Barley Brown's Shawn Kelso, and 10 Barrel's Jimmy Seifrit

Barley Brown’s owner Tyler Brown made this public statement on Facebook yesterday:

As many of you have heard, Shawn Kelso is leaving Barley Brown’s to take a brewing job at larger brewery. We wish him the the best of luck in his new adventure.

Kelso looks to begin his post with 10 Barrel Brewing in March of this year. We wish him the best in his endeavors. More on this story to come soon.

Burnside Brewing Hosts Night of the Living Ales

Night of the Living Ales on Saturday October 29, 2011 at Burnside Brewing

Burnside BrewingBack for it’s second year  Night of the Living Ales is the ultimate Halloween party for the craft beer minded drinker featuring eight unique and special beers from seven Oregon breweries. This years festivities take place inside the elaborately decorated south brewery space of Burnside Brewing Co. and the adjacent covered outdoor beer garden.  To entertain you while you sip fine brews and cocktails, we have lined up live music by  The Ascetic Junkies and  Boy Eats Drum Machine, fabulous sexy Halloween themed Burlesque from Meghan Mayhem and Hai Fleisch of  Rose City Shimmy and amazing fire performers. Throughout the evening expect on-stage costume contests and amateur burlesque with prizes like gift cards and swag from Burnside Brewing Co.

Brought to you by Burnside Brewing Co., Maletis Distribution, Yelp and Ninkasi Brewing this year’s celebration brings together seven of Oregon’s best breweries with some unique holiday themed beers:

Burnside Brewing: Permafrost – is Burnside Brewing Co.’s first winter elixir. It’s a big strong ale brewed with 7 different malts and copious amounts of Columbia and Amarillo hops pillowed in the middle to give this warming brew a chewy complex malt body and a unique fruity juicy hoppiness throughout. You wont want to sip this dangerously strong and tasty beer like you should but pound it . 8.3% abv 77.4 IBU

Burnside Brewing: Peanut Butter Chocolate Alt – A one-off keg of Burnside Brewing’s take on the traditional German-style Alt bier malty and carmelly with reese’s peanut butter cups infused into the beer to complement the creamy body and nutty dry finish. It’s all the favorite flavors of Halloween candy you loved as a kid infused into your favorite adult beverage!

Fort George BreweryNorth V – This year we took another Holiday Icon, The Fruitcake, and designed our Winter Seasonal in its’ honor.
A mash of barley, oats, wheat, rye, rich caramel and honey malts are mildly spiced with Cascade and Saaz hops, fermented with Fort George House Yeast then allowed to condition on hand-splintered, rum inspired oak. A Glase Fruit concoction that includes cherries, pineapple, orange and lemon peel is dissolved into the finished beer to add the final touches.
While designed and bottled to age, we are sure this version of the Fruitcake will not be passed down for generations, but opened and imbibed at many a cheerful gathering. 7.5% abv. IBU’s Hard To Tell

Oakshire Brewing
Big Black Jack (Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter) – Oven roasted pumpkins, cocoa nibs, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and ginger round out this burly Imperial Porter. Trick…. or Treat?

Lompoc: 2010 Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster Mash
– this batch was aged in Bourbon barrels for 11 months and cellared for an additional two. This Imperial Porter has a slight Bourbon aroma with chocolate and licorice flavors finishing with vanilla notes (8% ABV).

Ninkasi Brewing: PK Ice

A slightly strong golden lager with Ninkasi’s trademark hops.

Widmer Brothers: Nelson O’ Ryely IPA

The latest in the rotator series of IPA’s is made with Rye to coplement the hops with an added rye bread spiciness.

10 Barrel: India Session Ale

A low alcohol session beer you can knock back a few of without getting a buzz but sacrifice none of the hoppy goodness of an IPA.

10 Barrel Brewery to Continue with Inventive Recipes Through Expansion

10 Barrel's Mark Carver shows the blueprint for the new Bend brewhouse

More details of the new 50 barrel brewhouse at 10 Barrel Brewing (no, they are not going to change the name) in Bend, Oregon have been divulged. We spoke with our friend Mark Carver, who is the brand manager for the company, and learned some of the exciting details regarding the new undertaking. Carver says that despite the energy drain of  trying to keep up with the momentum of Apocalypse (IPA), Sinistor (Black Ale), and ISA,  the brewing staff “are encouraged and given the freedom and resources needed that enable them to design and bring to reality countless new twists, turns, and whacky ideas and intuitions of the brewing science”,  adding ” Not all of them reach the “public pallate” of course, but as I was talking to (brewmaster) Jimmy (Seifrit) yesterday he puts it in “timely world series”  perspective when he says…”you can’t get a hit unless you step up to the plate and take a swing or two..”"  Four of the beers the team designed Read More…
