Boonville Beer Fest (Instagram photo by @linemodifier)

One of the most anticipated craft beer events on the West Coast is undoubtedly the annual Boonville Beer Fest. This past weekend marked the 17th annual return of this event centered around the pioneering brewery that is Anderson Valley Brewing.

Located within the serene rolling hills and oak groves in the secluded town of Boonville, about 25 miles west beyond a winding mountainous pass from Ukiah in Mendocino County, Anderson Valley’s yearly pilgrimage witnesses a great deal of brewers, brewery representatives, industry folks and beer enthusiasts from all points north, south and east. With a large contingency of the turnout representing California, the festival showcased both popular and obscure, regional and journeyed companies for this unparalleled undertaking. Read More…

L’Hivernale des Brasseurs:
The Winter Warmer Experience

Live music and gathering at 2013 L'Hivernale des Brasseurs

By Marc Demeule

Hivernale des BrasseursOn the last Saturday, I had the privilege of attending the most decadent and epicurean beer event held in our province of Québec.  The Winter Warmer has been created to take a break from our rough winter climate and to provide  beers lovers with a perfect occasion to taste, incredible, extreme, and uniques one-of-a-kind beers.  The original mission of the founders (Broue Pub Brouhaha, Bières et plaisirs and Les Coureurs des Doires ) has been perfectly respected for this third edition of L’Hivernale ed Brasseurs.

Held on 3 days, from 15:00 pm to 1:00 am, a daily ticket allowed you to choose from 36 different beers.  The service, provided by a team of professional beertenders, was very efficient and we didn’t have to wait for long before being served.  The beer selection was split into three separate bars with specific beer menus: caramelized, hoppy or spiced, roasted.

We made our way among the 400 privileged attendees inside a crowded Théâtre Plaza.  Armed with the 4-ounce official festival glass and a bottle of water, we had 10 hours to taste anything we desired as long as we were thirsty. This event didn’t include any limitations and supplied enough beer so that the majority of the products still remained available as long as we could elaborate new theories to create a parallel universe or a project that will never exist.  A total epicurean experience.

Through this unique selection of taps, bottles and casks, here is a look at some great creations: Read More…

And, as an added bonus, as we do every year, we will feature the mouthwatering treats from Saraveza’s own Sugar Pimp, Lori Adams Clinton.

Sweethearts Matthew DiTullo and Katie BurnsTo make My Beery Valentine accessible for all who might have other V-Day plans, this event is taking place on Sunday February 10, 2013 on the weekend just before the big day. We’ve teamed up with Saraveza’s extraordinarily awesome staff to wrangle up craft brews from Oregon’s finest. Mt Tabor Brewing Throwing a Party For First Friday in Vancouver, WA

Mt Tabor Brewing

Press Release:

Moreland PrintFirst Friday means Vancouver’s Art Walk and fun times at Mt Tabor Brewing.  To make First Friday in February extra special we’ve partnered up with our good friends at Moreland Print and Friday Freezer Artist Charlie Layton to create an event you won’t want to miss.

Charlie Layton - Fridge ArtCharlie Layton, a Pennsylvania-based artist, realized one morning that his freezer was made of the same surface as a dry-erase board. He began drawing various scenes on it every Friday morning as he drank his coffee, and posted the pictures to his Facebook page. A friend started sharing his photos on various forums and when people caught wind of this his blog’s daily page views skyrocketed from around 50 to over 17,000, providing amusement to friends and strangers alike.  When asked what inspires his artwork, Charlie says it’s usually something that will look good in black and white as well as something cold or arctic.  His Friday drawings average between 60-100 Facebook likes per drawing and have shown up on blogs as far away as Europe and Japan, with various media outlets featuring him and his creations.

Choice Beers for Holiday Food Pairings

Holiday beer pairings

By Diana Carlton

Winter brings a number of wonderful holiday occasions, from cookie-decorating extravaganzas to sit-down dinners with family and friends. Whether you’re hosting the hottest holiday shindig or just looking for something tasty to bring to your in-laws’ holiday feast, here are some of the best beers to accompany special seasonal meals.

Brasserie Dupont Avec les Bons VoeuxIf you’re a fan of classy imported beers, a great one to try is Avec les Bon Voeux from Brasserie Dupont in Belgium. A delightful saison-style ale, it has a peachy fruitiness and a hoppy base that manages to be spicy rather than bitter. This beer used to be a new year’s gift from the brewery to its most distinguished customers, and it’s only recently that this special holiday beer has been available to the public. Pair it with a roast duck or goose for a main course, or with a dense chocolate or spice cake for dessert.

Scaldis Prestige (photo from UnTappd)If you really want to impress someone, your best choice is a bottle of Scaldis Prestige. This beauty from Belgium is triple-fermented, with the final fermentation happening in oak casks previously used for the finest burgundy wine. A multifaceted ale, its amber tone holds notes of caramel and cherries with a hint of spice. It would go well with grilled meat and game dishes, but would also be the perfect accompaniment to a rich baked brie. Sold in a wine-style bottle that runs about $40, this beer isn’t cheap. But as one of the few beers with a consistent 100 rating on RateBeer.com, it’s well worth the expense.

Shmaltz He'Brew Jewbelation Sweet 16 California EditionIf your tastes run to the less expensive and closer to home, never fear. Read More…
