BREWPUBLIC KILLERBEERWEEK: Killer Beers of Southern Oregon

BREWPUBLIC KILLER BEERWEEK EVENT:

Tuesday October 18 5PM-close

Bottles has quickly asserted itself as one of the best places for great beer in not only the Beaumont Neighborhood, but also in Portland. Oregon is a big-ass state so we’ve decided to head south and wrangle up a nice assortment of craft beers from Southern Oregon breweries such as SOB, Caldera, Wild River, Klamath Basin, Standing Stone, Walkabout, and more.

Weekend at the 15th Annual Boonville Beer Fest

15th Annual Boonville Beer Fest

When our friends at Oakshire Brewing in Eugene invited us to join them for the this year’s Boonville Beer Fest, we couldn’t help but to say yes. Despite feeling a little beat down by the previous week at Eugene’s inaugural beer week, Boonville’s legendary fest was one we’d been eying for sometime, and since 2011′s marked the 15th annual occurrence of this event, it seemed logical that this would be the year we checked it off our beer bucket list.

Weekend In Review

Sampler tray at McMenamins 18th Annual Hillsdale Brewfest

By Dan Culver

It might be hard for Beervana to follow up a weekend like Zwickelmania, but it does its best in the form of beer summits, competitions, and festivals as good as any city possibly could. To kick off the weekend, Roscoe’s on SE Stark and 81st Avenue held their monthly beer summit.  This month’s theme was Stouts. They really lived up to this one as you could find 12 stouts in house that would satisfy the biggest critic or the individual who was just in the mood due to our Nor’easter type weather (below freezing all day, etc.)  Some very interesting and unique stouts were on hand, including ones that some of you might be familiar with like Caldera’s Old Growth Imperial or Nectar Ales (Firestone Walker) Xantus, along with the harder to find types like Ninkasi’s Vanilla Oatis and Boneyard’s Sug Knight.  With so many choices and styles within a style it was hard to zone in on a favorite but the one that stood out seemed to be Oakshire’s Heart Shaped Box.  With the subtle cherry notes and milk chocolate flavor, it what was one of those stouts that seemed to ‘sooth the soul’ and was right up there in uniqueness with Upright’s Coffee Stout and Deschutes’ Murder by Mashtun.  This particular beer summit might well be dubbed Summit of the Year but hard to say since Read More…

Septembeer Fest!

If you’re not one of the lucky lads or lasses who will be in attendance for the country’s biggest and baddest beer fests, aka Great American Beer Fest (aka GABF), fret not. The 29th installation of the GABF September 16-18 might offer over 2,200 beers to try which is more than you’ll likely find at any other single festival, but after all, who can drink 2,200 beers in three days (We’re imagining a few friends contemplating it).

This month, do what so many people around the country are doing, take a staycation. Yes, it’s that catch word you’ve likely heard promoted from advocates of living local, but it certainly is good for the economy, and in these rougher economic times, it might be just what you need to enjoy the fruits of the Pacific Northwest, in our humble opinion, one of the greatest places to live on the planet.

Here’s a look at some events coming up in September that you might consider attending if you love Oregon craft beer Read More…

Umpqua Brew Fest

Celebrate water and the end of summer at the 1st Annual Umpqua Brew Fest, hosted by Umpqua Watersheds on Sat., Sept. 18. Every adult over 21 is invited to raise a glass to water conservation, while enjoying great beer, great food, great music, and one heck of a great party!

This free admission event will run from 1 to 11 p.m. in the hardwood forest at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, and will feature microbreweries throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Ninkasi in Eugene, Caldera in Ashland, and our local McMenamins Roseburg Station.

Fresh barbecued oysters and other great food will be available.

This year’s theme is “It’s all about the water.” Festival goers can learn at information booths how our Umpqua River system provides many more benefits than just recreation. This wonderful source of clean and pure water is critically important to our communities’ health and many people’s livelihoods.

Nano Beer Fest This Weekend at Fanno Creek

Fanno Creek Brewpub of Tigard, Oregon again hosts their semiannual Nano Beer Fest starting Friday August 6. The three-day event is slated to feature beer from fifteen Oregon breweries. While not all of these brewers are necessarily nano breweries (for example, Fort George now runs on a 30 barrel system), the festival itself might be safe to call nano. The event will allow craft beer lovers to sample a variety of styles from brewers from all parts of the state, like Beer Valley in Ontario, Walkabout in Central Point, Fort George in Astoria, Three Creeks in Sisters, and many others scattered throughout our vast landscape.

In addition to the three days of craft beer enjoyment, Nano Beer Fest will host an array of artists showcasing a wide range of media.

Some highlights pouring at Summer Nano Beer Fest 2010 include Walkabout Worker’s Pale, Caldera Dry-hopped Orange, Double Mountain Devil’s Kriek, Bend Brewing Black Diamond Dark Lager, Heater Allen Dunkel, and Fort George Sunset Pale Ale. Most of the brews at this fest you might be able to find on tap regularly around Portland, but in Tigard, this is a really cool showcase of craft beer. Further, the event promises great weather and should be a lot of fun.

For more details and to see a complete list of beers pouring at Summer Nano Beer Fest 2010, visit their website: www.nanobeerfest.com

Summer Nano Beer Fest takes place August 6-8, 2010; 11:30AM until close. Fanno Creek Brewpub is located at 12562 SW Main Street in Tigard, Oregon. For more information, visit their website, or call (503) 624-9400.

Bailey’s Taproom Announces AnniBrew3 LineUp

Bailey’s Taproom is unquestionably one of the best craft beer bars we’ve ever set foot inside, and, of course, our standards for beer are pretty high. Proprietor Geoff Phillips and his dedicated crew of beer geeks will be celebrating their third year on Saturday July 31, 2010 with a lineup of specialty barrel-aged brews, to the delight of area beer zealots and those traveling from afar to partake in one of the most anticipated beer events of the year in Portland, Oregon.

In a few recent posts on Bailey’s blog, our friend Geoff divulges some of the rare barrel-aged brews attendees can expect to try. We pulled the following info from Bailey’s site:
