It is February, the shortest month of the year, but this year it is a little longer thanks to it being leap year. That means every four years an added day is tacked on to the end of the month to synchronize with the astronomical year. What does this mean specifically? Well, for beer lovers here it means one more day to enjoy two of the best month-long celebrations around. Fort George Brewery of Astoria is returning their much anticipated Stout Month. For the full month of February, the artisan brew house will pay homage to rich, roasted barley delight. Each year since 2007, this month-long event sees the brewery’s public house surprisingly more hopping than in some coastal summer months. To the appeasement of beer zealots, this year’s Stout Month at the Fort will be bigger and better than ever thanks to added space and an expanded brewery. There will be at least eight of their own stouts presented, and the pub and taproom will also showcase some regional breweries’ most limited specialty brews.

Brewmaster Dave Marliave of this Corvallis Brewpub will pour complimentary tastes of his freshly bottled Big Fin Baltic Porter, Moustache Rye’d Imperial Rye Red,& Seriously Low Budget English Pale Ale in addition to his already available Tailgater Kolsch and Feathertop Pumpkin Stout. Owd Ruddy (Barrel Fermented/Aged English Oatmeal Stout), Cider Wheat (American style Wit, without the spices, fermented in pinot noir barrels that previously held Two Towns vintage cider),& Rough Cut IPA on tap in the Biercafe.

On December 23, 2011, you know, the day before the day before Christmas, The Mongers crew will be tapping a fantastic array of holiday treats including the highly sought after Block 15 Brewing‘s Figgy Pudding ale. Says bar manager Josh Grgas “What started with a keg of Block 15′s Figgy Pudding is now an annual event. We’re getting ourselves involved in the holiday frenzy by filling our taps with rare holiday themed beers. Everyone needs respite from the holiday shopping and family.” Here’s the skinny on what will be pouring on this day:

We’ll tap a keg of Block 15′s Figgy Pudding in the Biercafe at 3PM and begin selling a limited number of bottles at 5PM. Limit one per person. Figgy Pudding is a strong ale brewed with molasses, figs, and spices and matured in Brandy Barrels. -Belmont Station

We’ll be pouring beers you’ve never even heard of that Deschutes has dreamed up in its crazy brewing laboratories at its Bend and Portland brew pubs.
