Widmer Brothers Brewing returns another popular handle from their Rotator IPA Series. Falconer’s IPA is a flavorfully hopped ale featuring a unique hop pellet, Falconer’s Flight™, an exclusive proprietary hop blend developed by Hopunion LLC. According to Hopunion, “This novel proprietary pellet blend is comprised of many of the Northwest’s most unique hop varieties and is perfect for any Northwest-style IPA. Each hop has been hand selected for its superior aromatic qualities, imparting distinct tropical, citrus, floral, lemon and grapefruit tones.” To honor Glen and support his legacy, Hopunion will be contributing proceeds from each Falconer’s Flight™ hops purchase to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation.

Good news for Pacific Northwesterner craft brewers who are seeking assistance in furthering their experience and education in the field. The Falconer Foundation has recently announced that they are now accepting applications for a full-tuition scholarship to the American Brewers Guild‘s Intense Brewing Science and Education program. The Sasquatch Legacy Project, started by Walking Man Brewing and recently transitioned to Ninkasi Brewing, invites each year’s Glen Hay Falconer Scholarship recipients to collaborating on a beer together at Ninkasi Brewing. This year the Legacy beer is a Wheatwine.

Proceeds from this beer will go to support the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation and the Northwest Legends Foundation, whose mission is to educate brewers and support the community in memory of our lost brewing friend Glen Falconer. Read More…

Glen Hay Falconer (1961-2002) was a man who did more than he probably imagined for craft beer in the Pacific Northwest. A young Falconer began his professional career began at Steelhead Brewing in Eugene in 1990. The brewer took his passion to the next level by completing the Siebel Concise Course in Brewing Technology four years later. Soon after, Falconer began working in Newport with Rogue’s John Maier, one of the nation’s most recognized brewmasters. In 1996, Falconer assumed the role of head brewer at the now defunct Wild Duck Brewery of Eugene. His untimely death,a decade ago at the age of 40, was a huge loss to the craft beer world. However, it is quite evident how much he is loved, as his spirit lives on through the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to “contribute to the Northwest craft brewing community by providing opportunities for professional and aspiring brewers to further their knowledge and expertise. The Foundation is also committed to honoring Glen’s broader interests by working with the Northwest Legends Foundation to contribute directly to local Eugene-based organizations that represent his ideals and passions.”

Today the Falconer Foundation offers the opportunity of offering two educational scholarships to the World Academy of Brewing at the Siebel Institute and one to the American Brewer’s Guild. It was recently announced that the 2012 scholarships are now being accepted by the foundation. ** ANTHONY STONE PREVAILS IN LARGEST APPLICANT GROUP EVER FOR FALCONER FOUNDATION AMERICAN BREWERS GUILD SCHOLARSHIP **

Widmer Brothers recently released “Falconer’s IPA.”  According to a recent press release, Widmer says they had a vision to use Hopunion’s Falconer’s Flight™ proprietary hop blend to create a special beer in support of brewing education in memory of the late Glen Hay Falconer. Falconers brother Quenton who heads the Falconer Foundation said “Thanks to everyone at Widmer who conceived the idea and brought it to fruition!!
