Double Mountain’s Four Horsemen Series Releases in Portland

Double Mountain Brewmaster Matt Swihart
Here is some information about an upcoming event this Friday, April 12, 2013 at Bazi Bierbrasserie in Portland. Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom of Hood River will bring their new series of Belgian beers known as “The Four Horsemen” to town. This lineup has been available at the taproom for some time, but this particular event marks the first time that they can all be enjoyed together in Portland. Here is what Double Mountain Brewmaster Matt Swihart has to say about his grand project:
Double Mountain's Matt SwihartThe Four Horsemen beers is the latest resurrection of my interest in working with the LaChouffe yeast from Ardennes, Belgium. This particular yeast throws a very nice fruity/estery character without the big phenolic hit I get off many of the other Belgium yeasts used in their strong beers. Most winter seasons, I like to pick a
Belgian yeast and build a variety of beers to display the characteristics of the fermentation. While planning out this year, originally just 3 strong Belgian beers (blond, red, and a dark) the brewers were touring a few breweries and pubs in Portland and we were Read More…

Double Mountain Brewery Turns 6, With Rock

Double Mountain 6th Anniversary PartyPress Release:

HELL’S BELLES Headlines This Year’s Anniversary Party on Saturday, March 16 at the Brewery

It’s that time of year again when we toss up the big tent, fill the taps with all we’ve got and throw a shindig to thank all our friends for another great year. The Double Mountain Anniversary Party has become a Northwest institution, and this year’s 6th Anniversary gig will carry the fun even higher.

The all-day party will culminate with the awesome musical stylings of Hell’s Belles, the all-girl AC/DC cover band that has torched stages across the nation. HB will be supported by a strong roster of local acts including the rockin’ country of Brewer’s Grade (formerly known as Unwound); surf rockers Audio Amigos; and local acoustic acts Shed Shakers and Sid & Al.

On the beer front, three bars will be dispensing a total of two dozen different Double Mountain ales and lagers, many of them from the brewers’ reserve stash. We will be doing half- as well as full-pours into a souvenir glass mug this year, to enable our fans to sample a wider variety. Pizza by-the-slice (new this year) and sandwiches will also be available. $5 admission for adults includes the souvenir mug; kids are welcome with parent/guardian until 5pm.

Four Year Double Mountain Fa La La La La Tasting

Double Mountain FaLaLaLaLa

For the first year since they’ve started brewing their beloved holiday seasonal, Double Mountain Brewery of Hood River, Oregon has been in limited supply of the hoppy Fa La La La La. Based on Brewmaster Matt Swihart’s Full Sail treat known as Wreck The Halls, the brew did not make its way into the Portland market. However, fans of the full bodied brew can get a taste not only of this year’s release, but also of the three years prior at a special vertical tasting slated for Christmas Eve at the Hood River brewpub. Here’s the details from the brewery; don’t miss out: Read More…

Fa La La La La Vertical Tasting @ Double Mountain

Double Mountain FaLaLaLaLaat the Taproom, 8 Fourth Street, Hood River
starts Saturday December 24 (Christmas Eve); good while it lasts. Doors open at 11:30am

Brewmaster Matt Swihart is feeling his holiday oats, and to celebrate, he’ll be breaking out an awesome four-year vertical of our Fa La La La La Winter Ale this weekend. Come Saturday morning, one keg apiece of 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Fa will hit the Taproom taps. Tasters will be $2 for a 5-ounce mini-snifter and $7 for a full flight of four Fas. You’ll also be able to buy regular glasses & pints of all vintages (but no growlers, sorry). Once it’s gone, it’s gone, so beat a path out early to Hood River if you can.

We’ll also be tossing a special pizza for the holidays, “The Christmas Pie”, featuring Chop Butchery soppressata, fresh mozzarella and arugula pesto, yum. The bold flavors of the toppings should stand up well to the big hoppy goodness that is the Fa.

The Taproom will be open ’til 10pm on Christmas Eve and from 1-8pm for a special Christmas Day session. Happy holidays everybody!
