Prost! 2nd Annual Oktoberfest

Prost!Starting Saturday, October 1, Prost! will throw its two-day-long Oktoberfest celebration, in honor of the legendary German tradition that inspired the pub itself; the party will occur throughout the entire Mississippi Marketplace, inclusive of the multiple food carts, Prost!’s own separate bier cart, and the outdoor bar recently built into Prost!’s sun-deck.

The pub’s doors will open at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, at which time a limited supply of 1L glass boots and 1L glass mugs will go on sale for purchase. At noon, the ceremonial tapping of the  first Oktoberfest keg of the celebration will commence on top of the bar, officially beginning the festival. Throughout the day, BBQ chicken will be coming off the grills, live music will be playing from 1-9 p.m., and traditional German dancing shall be performed for the crowd, starting at 2 p.m.

At 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Prost!’s first Masskrugstemmen competition will take place. Masskrugstemmen, which, loosely translated, means the lifting a liter mug full of bier, is a well-known, highly competitive Bavarian sport. A competitor holds the Masskrug, a 1L stein full of bier, in his hand as his outstretched arm is positioned parallel to the floor. Whoever can hold the Masskrug the longest is declared the winner! There will be both men’s and women’s competitions, and winners will receive prizes ranging from Prost! gift cards, swag, glassware, and more.

On Sunday, October 2, the bar will open again at 11 a.m., and the party will continue with food, live music, traditional German dancing performances at 1:30 p.m., and more rounds of the Masskrugstemmen men’s and women’s competitions at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Prost!, located at 4237 N Mississippi Avenue, will be open from 11-2:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Lompoc Oktoberfest @ Sidebar

Lompoc OktoberfestThis Friday, join us at Sidebar from 3 to 11 pm for our annual Oktoberfest release party. Lompoc’s Oktoberfest is a Marzen lager, pale orange in color with a clean malt flavor balanced by a touch of Perle hops.  A portion of the grain used was roasted in the oven at Lompoc’s Fifth Quadrant, giving a slight biscuit flavor. The Oktoberfest release party will also feature complimentary appetizers like cheese and German sausages. If you’re lucky, Jerry might make an appearance in his lederhosen!

We’ll also be serving 2007 Fresh Hop Harvest Man Red, brewed in September 2007 with 100 pounds of Crystal fresh hops. It is malty and full bodied with a deep, rich red color; 2008 Saazilla, a double Pilsner that features Czech Saaz hops. It is aggressively hopped with seven hop additions, and it is the perfect beer for a warm summer day; Centennial India Pale Ale; Batch 69 Baltic Porter, a strong, dark beer with hints of chocolate and black licorice that was brewed with a lager yeast for a much cleaner, smoother finish than a traditional porter; and Pale Ryeder, a rye pale ale brewed with Crystal hops and 30% rye malt. It has a golden color with a balanced malt flavor and a slight spiciness.
