21st Amendment Brewery New Down To Earth Session IPA

With winter now behind us comes a new session IPA from 21st Amendment Brewery with its new Down To Earth Session IPA. This new low ABV beer will join the brewery’s year round line up of beers in both 12oz cans and on draft.

Down To Earth is replacing 21st Amendment’s popular Bitter American but continues the story of HAM, the space chimp that was the focal point of its Bitter American cans. We hate to see Bitter American go but the new Down To Earth also comes in at the exact same ABV of 4.4% making this a truly sessionable beer.

The main difference between the two beers is in its hop bill. The new Down To Earth uses Cascade, Mosaic and Warrior while Bitter American used Cascade, Warrior, Simcoe and Centennial. Both beers are 42 IBUs.21st Amendment Down To Earth

From our tasting of Down To Earth we found this beer to be similar to many of the other session IPAs that are entering the marketplace. Creating a hop forward beer with lower alcohol is a challenge and in doing so these beers offer less body but in doing so also allows one to drink a few more of these. It’s an excellent choice for the upcoming summer cookouts or one to have with your lunch but will keep you functioning into the evening hours.

“Down to Earth is the natural evolution (pun intended) of our favorite chimp. It’s the second act of Ham’s story. He’s back home and enjoying some well-deserved relaxation,” explains Nico Freccia. “A tribute to unplanned adventures and unsung heroes, this is the ideal beer to enjoy after a long work day or when you have a full afternoon of play ahead.” In case you missed what HAM’s been up to… here’s a look at his pre-departure training and adventures in space. 21st Amendment Brewery and Elysian Brewing Release a Pumpkin Beer Like No Other

21st Amendment & Elysian Pumpkin "He Said"

21st Amendment Brewery joins forces with the pumpkin king himself, Dick Cantwell of Elysian Brewing to release not just one but two pumpkin beers in 12oz cans and on draft. These two pumpkin beers consist of a Baltic-Style Porter and a Belgian-Style Tripel. Not sure which one to pick up at the local bottle shop? Well 21st Amendment has the indecisive covered by selling these in a mix pack of two each beginning in late September.

Read more details below from 21st Amendment’s Press Release:

It’s a Baltic-style Porter….or is it a Belgian-style Tripel?

He Said let’s brew a dark beer with pumpkin and spices and put it in a light colored can. He Said let’s brew a light beer with pumpkin and spices and put it in a dark colored can. So they did both and produced a pumpkin beer collaboration like no other: two black pumpkin beers and two white pumpkin beers, together in one box.

Brewing up a pumpkin collaboration beer should be a piece of cake for Dick Cantwell, the pumpkin king at Elysian Brewing and a slam dunk for Shaun O’Sullivan, the 21st Amendment Brewery Brewmaster who brought the world Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer. In truth, brewing up He Said wasn’t that hard. What proved to be more difficult was getting their story about its inception straight.

Here, straight from the mouths of the pumpkin king and one of the watermelon guys, is exactly what He Said: Read More…

Weekend In Review: Birthday Partying in the East Bay

It's my party and I'll drink lots of craft beer if I want to

Lagunitas - Hell yeah! It’s not every year my birthday lands on a weekend, so when it does, I am even more excited. This year is my zodiac, year of the Dragon, and with it came a breadth of excellent beer. While last year’s birthday festivities were pretty epic (camping in the Cascade foothills with my birthday beer brethren), this year’s was nothing to sneeze at. It was my first birthday in the Bay Area since I turned legal drinking age so there was a lot of work to take care of.

On the Friday preceding my birthday, I caught a ride up north with my Portland friends Theo and Amanda Skourtist who were in town for the weekend. The mission was to snag a few pints at Russian River Brewing in Santa Rosa and Lagunitas Brewing in Petaluma. Trips to these two world class establishments never get old. In Santa Rosa, we met up with Tatiana Peavy aka Goats Udder at Russian River. It was a gay Read More…
