16 Tons 3rd Annual Winter & Strong Ale Fest

On Saturday & Sunday December 15-16, warm up your Winter at 16 Tons Taphouse, in the heart of Eugene. Located smack dab between the University of Oregon and Downtown. 16 Tons at 13th & High Street will serve up more 70 Craft Beers including: Belgian Strong Ales, Barrel Aged Ales, Spiced Ales, Barley Wines, Imperial Stouts, Imperial Browns, Strong Sour Ales, Traditional Old Ales, and Winter Style IPAs. For the Craft Beer lover, this is a not-to-be-missed event.

The Festival provides a unique opportunity to sample seasonal, one off, and rare beers from renowned brewers from Oregon and beyond. A few of the most coveted beers include Boneyard’s Suge Knite Imperial Stout (Bend, OR) and Block 15′s Barrel Aged Figgy Pudding (Corvallis, OR) which, like many of the beers, are extremely limited in release and very highly regarded. Killer Pumpkin Beers On the Way!

Laurelwood Stingy Jack Pumpkin Ale returns on August 22, 2012

It’s been said before, seasonal beer releases seem to arrive earlier and earlier. Jubelale or Bi-Frost anyone? Still, you can’t deny that one of the most consoling parts of summer ending is the arrival of the autumn seasonals that are perfect to enjoy while peeping colorful leaves or relaxing while taking in some football on the tube.

A very polarizing style of beer is unquestionably the pumpkin ale. This gourd-eous brew category brings a spectrum of spice and fruit flavors to the palate. We’re already getting fired up about a few that are already in production. In late October, Brewpublic is teaming up with the Green Dragon once again to bring Portland another KillerPumpkinFest. This will be a part of our annual KillerBeerWeek that will come to a grand finale at Bailey’s Taproom on October 27.  More details to come!

Ninkasi founding brewmaster Jamie Floyd, who helped brew the beer with the recipients of the 2011 Glen Hay Falconer Scholarship, posted on Facebook: “We took this project over from Walking Man Brewing who asked us to take on this tradition. The proceeds for this beer will go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation and maybe a some to the Northwest Legends Foundation that puts on the Sasquatch Beer Festival where the beer will be served first. We are making a Wheat Wine today!!! We picked wheat as this beer is dedicated to Mike West founder of West Brothers Brewing and many other awesome things including starting Chef’s Night Out who passed away last year too young! Friend of Mike are encouraged to say hi. Much Love to the friends and family of Mike!”

2011 Falconer Foundation Scholarship recipients were Jason Carriere of Eugene’s newly opened Falling Sky Brewpub and Dave Pendelton of Dick’s Brewing in Centralia, WA. Read more about these lads here. 2010′s recipient Brett Thomas of Silver Moon Brewing in Bend, OR helped brew the beer as well as others from Ninkasi’s brew staff.

Weekend In Review: Destination Bend, Oregon (Part Two) Deschutes Brewery, Boneyard Beer, 10 Barrel Brewing, Silver Moon Brewing

Boneyard co-founder Clay Storey at the taps

The weekend before last we found ourselves in Oregon’s largest town east of the Cascades. Here in Bend, we discovered a breadth of exceptional breweries. And, for a city with the same population as Asheville, North Carolina, which has been dubbed “Beer City USA”, Bend has more breweries. In the coming months, at least a handful of new breweries will emerge in Bend pushing it up to around 15 within the city.

In our last post about our most recent excursions in Bend, we mentioned the new on the scene GoodLife Brewing Co., which has been breaking ground into their 22,ooo square foot warehouse with some promising flavors, as well as the bursting at the seems Deschutes Brewery, which is at the top of Oregon’s players when it comes to artisan beer production.
