Full Sail Releases Dan’s Satin Stout as Part of Brewer’s Share Experimental Line Up

Full Sail Assistant Operations Manager Dan Nakamura

This month Full Sail Brewing will release a new beer in their Brewer’s Share Experimental line up: “Dan’s Satin Stout” crafted by Assistant Operations Manager Dan Nakamura.  Intrigued by the complexity of dark beer, Dan brewed a sweet, dark stout with a very smooth, satiny finish.

Dan’s Satin Stout is a creamy, dark beer with a soft and smooth finish and is complemented with the subtly sweet notes of chocolate and a hint of honey. A blend of pale, Munich, caramel, chocolate malt, and roast barley give Satin Stout its deep darkness and complex palate. Willamette and Mt. Hood hops provide just enough bitter to balance the sweet malitness; their slightly spicy aromas complement the floral notes from the addition of Read More…

It’s February! Let the Stouts and Bourbons Flow

Barrels at Block 15 Brewery

February is here and this means that two of the year’s boldest month-long beer events are happening in Oregon – Fort George Brewery’s Stout Month and Block 15 Brewery’s Bourbon Month.

Fort George Stout Month February 2012It is February, the shortest month of the year, but this year it is a little longer thanks to it being leap year. That means every four years an added day is tacked on to the end of the month to synchronize with the astronomical year. What does this mean specifically? Well, for beer lovers here it means one more day to enjoy two of the best month-long celebrations around. Fort George Brewery of Astoria is returning their much anticipated Stout Month. For the full month of February, the artisan brew house will pay homage to rich, roasted barley delight. Each year since 2007, this month-long event sees the brewery’s public house surprisingly more hopping than in some coastal summer months. To the appeasement of beer zealots, this year’s Stout Month at the Fort will be bigger and better than ever thanks to added space and an expanded brewery. There will be at least eight of their own stouts presented, and the pub and taproom will also showcase some regional breweries’ most limited specialty brews.

Several events highlight the Read More…

Fort George News: Continued Expansion, Stout Month, More Events

Fort George Brewery

Fort George Brewery of Astoria, Oregon continues its impressive expansion efforts. A year ago, we reported about their initial growth from an 8-barrel brewery to a 30-barrel one that involved adding more than 40,000 square feet to their  downtown property.

Now with more space to grow into and a bottling and packaging line, Fort George has begun putting forth more brands to not only Clatsop County and the Portland area, but they have pushed into the Washington market as well. In recent weeks they’ve added two 120-barrel fermentors and one 120-barrel brite tank from Metalcraft Fabrication in Portland, tripling capacity in their production facility.

Fort George Brewery founders Chris Nemlowill (left) and Jack HarrisThanks to all of their hard work, Fort George will be adding two new flavors to their canned beer lineup that already includes Vortex IPA, 1811 Pre-Prohibition Lager, and Cavatica Stout. In February Sunrise Oatmeal Pale Ale will become available in 16-ounce tallboys, and later in April, their popular Quick Wit will also become commercially available in cans.

Fort George has also begun construction for expansion of their restaurant, although this is about a year out. Fort George’s Tim Ensign says “We have started construction on the second story above the current Fort George restaurant; the new space will more than double the current space.”

BIGGER, BADDER, BLACKER!

Ale-ian

Belmont Station is a place thAbram Goldman-Armstrong (left) and Shawn Kelso of Barley Brown'sat feels like an never ending craft beer festival. Every night of the week there’s something going on in the Bier Cafe and the bottleshop. More than 1400 bottles of beer and nearly twenty rotating draught selections to choose from. Perhaps the most badass of all of their events is BIGGER, BADDER, BLACKER! This week long celebration of, as the title indicates, bold and behemoth dark brews, hosts some of the most coveted pitchy pours in the world.

If you missed the kickoff last night, you missed the initial “Descent into Darkness”, including rockstar brewer Shawn Kelso of Barley Brown’s (soon to be with 10 Barrel Brewing) unleashing two muscular brutes – BB’s Anniversary Ale simply known as “13″ and his 2010 Great American Beer Festival gold medal winning Turmoil CDA. In addition the Station was gracing the people with these two highly sought after dark ales, they also unveiled a Mikkeller Tequila Barrel-aged Black Hole alongside a Peated Whisky Barrel-aged Black Hole. Still not sated? How about some Laurelwood Moose & Squirrel Imperial Stout, New Belgium Clutch (sour Belgian style stout), or Deschutes Black Butte XXI (yes, from 2009). But don’t fret, for this, my friends, is just the tip of the big black iceberg. Read More…
