1856 Announces Grand Opening…Because Portland Needs Another Bottleshop/Taproom
|On Sunday September 9th, 1856, a new bottle shop & bar located in NE Portland will have their Grand Opening party from noon – 8 PM at 1465 NE Prescott.
The event will take place in the new shop and parking lot at Prescott Village, which will be closed off for the day. 1856 neighbors Pok Pok and Grain & Gristle, along with the Hop & Vine will provide food for the event. Beacon Sound will host DJs throughout the day, and Bellingham’s Heligoats, plus Portland’s own Paradise, Team Evil, and Gulls, along with a few other surprise acts will provide live music.
1856 is a new Portland bottle shop / bar with an eclectic and diverse selection of libations. With a focus on imports and regional beer and wine, 1856 has over 350 beers, 250 wines, 50 ciders, and a variety of bitters, vermouth, and sake. At the bar, you can enjoy wine by the glass, 6 beer taps, and a cider tap, and you can pick up a growler fill from one of the rotating taps. The space was built by JRA Green Building utilizing green and sustainable building techniques and materials. Features of the shop include all 100% FSC certified wood for the shelves and flooring, a hand built concrete bar, an 8-door cooler, and energy efficient lighting. In addition to bar seating, the shop has patio bench seating outside hand crafted from 50 year-old fir timbers. The shop is open daily from noon – 9 PM. The name of the shop is a reference to Louis Pasteur, for whom that year was significant in his studies on fermentation and yeast! Cheers!

I like the green aspects of this place and it sounds like the beer list will be pretty damn fine. I keep wondering how many bottleshops PDX can support. Good luck to these folks! I wish them well.
