Voting Is Now Open for USA Today 10Best – 2021 Beer Edition

A new year means another listicle to vote for compliments of the USA Today. The polls are now open for the USA Today 10Best – 2021 Beer Edition through 9:00am on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Winners will be announced on Friday, March 26.

For this year’s USA Today 10Best – Beer Edition, there are eight categories, one of which is cider. These categories include Best Beer Bar, Best Beer City, Best Beer Garden, Best Beer Label, Best Brewpub, Best Cidery, Best New Brewery, and Best Small Town Beer Scene. Each category has 20 nominees all handpicked by six panelists from the beer industry. This panel includes Dr. Mike Arra and Dr. Ruth Berman from Bon Beer Voyage; Latiesha Cook, Co-Founder, President and CEO of Beer Kulture; Gary Monterosso, an award-winning freelance critic; Dennis Malcolm Byron aka Ale Sharpton, beer writer and blogger; and AJ Keirans, host and founder of The 16oz. Canvas – The Art of Craft Beer.

Of the 160 nominations, ten came from breweries and a cidery from either Oregon or Washington. The cities of Portland, Bend and Seattle have each been nominated for Best Beer City while Hood River received a nomination for Best Small Town Beer Scene. Three Creeks Brewing from Sisters, Oregon received a nomination for Best Brewpub, the only one to be nominated from the PNW.

The Best New Brewery category sees two nominees from the PNW with The Good Society and Boss Rambler Beer Club. To come up with the nominees for this category, the five-person panel looked at breweries that were founded in the past three years (since the beginning of 2018).

Hailing from Seattle, The Good Society open its doors one year ago in February 2020. Later that same year, the brewpub was awarded Small Brewpub and Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival. Boss Rambler Beer Club from Bend, Oregon is the other nominee from the PNW in Best New Brewery. This brewery arrived on the scene in the summer of 2018 with its beers brewed by co-founder Jake Bansmer at a handful of breweries in Oregon as it continues to prep for its own brewery on the outskirts of Bend. A few months later Boss Rambler opened its popular taproom on Bend’s westside in early 2019.

Other regional nominees include Great Notion Brewing for its Jammy Pants in Best Beer Label; Prost! of Portland, Oregon for Best Beer Garden; and One Tree Hard Cider of Spokane, Washington for Best Cidery.
