Mt. Hood Brewing Takes Over the Rainbow Tavern in Maupin, Oregon
After expanding off the mountain a few years ago with its Tilikum Station location in SE Portland, Mt. Hood Brewing Co. (MHBC) adds a new location. This third property will take MHBC to the east side of Mt. Hood in Maupin, Oregon.
R.L.K. and Company, operators of Mt. Hood Brewing Co. and Timberline Lodge has recently purchased the Rainbow Tavern in Maupin. The area is known for its outdoor adventures including whitewater rafting and fly fishing on the Deschutes River, hiking, upland bird and big game hunting, and so much more! Now the newly named Mt. Hood Brewing Co. Rainbow Tavern will be a nice addition for the brewery for both locals and tourists to enjoy a craft beer and pub fare.
Built in 1935, the Rainbow Tavern is considered an icon by locals and tourists alike. As such, MHBC will make very few changes. Rustic MHBC wood beer labels depicting outdoor recreation will be woven into the existing decor of antlers and antiques. New tables and chairs will be added to compliment the luxe red pleather booths. New windows, a new gorgeously carved front door, air conditioning and other structural updates are planned for the near future. Later, outdoor deck seating is planned to accommodate families in the summer, but the Rainbow Tavern will maintain its 21-and-over status inside.
MHBC Rainbow Tavern’s food menu mostly remains consistent with what it is now, tavern fare. However, the chef at the Rainbow Tavern is eager to bring her “from scratch” approach to the menu so items will be fresher and house-made. The tap list at MHBC Rainbow Tavern currently features four of its own beers, with two additional beers to be added. Other MHBC beers will be offered by can or bottle alongside some classic tavern beers including PBR, Rainier, Coors, Corona and others.
Maupin is located just 45 minutes south of The Dalles on Hwy 197, and a short drive from the Portland or Bend areas. Mt. Hood Brewing Co. Rainbow Tavern is open daily from 11:00am – Midnight and minors are not permitted.
