Situated in Central Oregon, Crux Fermentation Project continues to push the envelope on its beers and more recently its cider. Now the nearly eight-year-old Bend brewery will put its winery license to good use as it has just released its first wines – Red Blend No. 1 and White Blend No. 2.

In addition to these two new wines, Crux is also releasing a new IPA that brings Crux co-founder/brewmaster back to his days at Deschutes Brewery. Flashcards White IPA is a bit of a history lesson for Larry as he first brewed this style of beer in 2011 while across town at Deschutes Brewery. Nine years ago he collaborated with Steven Pauwels of Boulevard Brewing on Collaboration No. 2 – White IPA. This beer was then tweaked a bit and resulted in Chainbreaker White IPA from Deschutes.

Now Larry is back at it and created an updated White IPA that takes in all of the characteristics of a Belgian Wit that includes wheat, coriander and orange peel but with a much stronger hop addition. The hop bill for Flashcards White IPA consists of Strata, Mosaic, Citra and a bit of Delta Hops.

Flashcards White IPA sits at 6.2% ABV and 50 IBU. Six-packs are available at the tasting room and now at your neighborhood grocery store/bottle shop – but only for a short time. Part of the Rotator Series, Flashcards White IPA will be followed by a Helles Lager called Hayduke once Crux sells through Flashcards.

But the biggest news of late from Crux is the new addition of wine to its portfolio of fermented beverages. We understood that Crux had a winery license as it has been producing its own line of small batch cider. What we didn’t realize is that the brewer is also fully utilizing this winery license for a new lineup of wine.

Crux is now offering two wines, a Red Blend and White Blend, all crafted using Northwest-grown varietals. Red Blend No. 1 and White Blend No. 2 are now available in 750mL bottles at the tasting room and on its online store, sold in pairs. Order one 750mL bottle of each blend (B), or order two 750mL bottles of red (R), or two 750mL bottles of white (W).
