Reuben’s Brews New 2025 Beer Releases – Brighten Up IPA + Puffy IPA
|With the dark days of winter upon us, Reuben’s Brews has released two new beers, both Indian Pale Ales, but each unique in their own way. Brighten Up IPA joins the core lineup at Reuben’s Brews while the new Puffy IPA is the brewery’s first seasonal IPA release in 2025.
Brighten Up IPA is inspired by Triumvirate IPA, an IPA that Reuben’s brewed with the now shuttered Brouwer’s Café for the brewery’s third anniversary back in 2015. It has been a few years since this beer has been brewed, so the team at Reuben’s Brews felt it was time for the beer to see a return.
During its tenure, Triumvirate IPA received a handful of awards. This includes accolades at the Washington Beer Awards, US Open Beer Championships, Best of Craft Beer Awards, a Gold Award at the 2016 World Beer Cup and a Gold Medal at the 2017 Great American Beer Festival, among others.
Now as we enter 2025, the highly awarded IPA is being released as Brighten Up IPA. This new year-round offering has been slightly tweaked, to what is now being called a new world West Coast IPA, to appeal to the contemporary IPA palate.
Brighten Up IPA is brewed with 2-Row, Caramel 40, Munich 10, White Wheat malts and a hop bill of Mosaic, Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin, and Simcoe. This does differ from its predecessor but brings forth less bitterness and lots of tropical fruit aroma and flavor! It’s a very enjoyable IPA at just 6% ABV and 62 IBUs.
The other new IPA, but one that is part of its rotating seasonal IPA series is Puffy IPA, a Hazy IPA. For 2025, this series will alternate each season from a Hazy IPA to a West Coast IPA.
In brewing Puffy IPA, the brew team took on a different approach to brew a Hazy IPA. Instead of adding hops in the boil, Puffy IPA a non-boil IPA with flaked oats. This new technique provides this beer with a soft, fluffy, or may we say puffy character.
The malt bill that is used in Puffy IPA consists of Pale, Pilsner, Flaked Oats, White Wheat, and Honey, while the hop bill utilizes Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, and Chinook. Of these hops, there’s a big dose of Mosaic hops in this one! And strangely enough, the Chinook hops do not come out of Washington, but from Michigan at Hop Head Farms.
This all results in an impressive Hazy IPA. There’s little, if any, bitterness and the beer is full of juicy fruit and melon character with a soft mouthfeel. There’s plenty of head retention from the quantity of proteins in the beer that leaves for a beautiful lace in the glass! Puffy IPA sits at 6.5% ABV and will be available for the next few months.
