With its history dating back 112 years to 1909 in the town of Shiner Texas, Spoetzl Brewery has released its latest Shiner beer that honors the brewery’s long-standing legacy. Now hitting shelves and taps is Shiner 1909, a small-batch lager brewed with heritage ingredients celebrating the history, endurance, and the Texas heritage of the brewery.

Most known for its Shiner Bock, beers from Shiner are all brewed in the brewery founded by Czech and German settlers. Five years later in 1914, a Bavarian named Kosmos Spoetzl joined the Shiner brewery. He found that locals enjoyed the beers from utilizing his signature recipe of a combination of old-world Bavarian techniques and his own secret, innovative twist. Kosmos created a legacy with Shiner beers that became a cult classic in Texas and beyond. Today, Shiner Bock is the top selling craft beer in Texas.

Now with the addition of Shiner 1909 to the brewery’s year-round lineup, this beer brings together its rich history honoring brewing traditions. Shiner 1909 is a pre-prohibition lager that utilizes Heritage 2-Row Barley, Noble Hops, and Shiner’s proprietary lager yeast and artesian water. The result is a crisp, well-balanced sessionable lager at 4.5% ABV. It’s a very crushable beer, perfect for an outdoor adventure or an afternoon on the couch watching some college football. We truly enjoyed this lager and it paired nicely with a dram of High West Double Rye!

“We’re so proud to launch Shiner 1909 in celebration of the brewery’s rich history,” says Matt Pechman, Spoetzl Brewing’s Head of Marketing, in a statement. “For 112 years, Shiner has brewed flavorful, refreshing and sessionable beers, becoming a favorite not only of Texans but of beer lovers nationwide. With this new release, we’re paying respect to our past while toasting to the future, and we’re making it available year-round so we’ll all be able to celebrate our birthday every day of the year.”

Shiner 1909 is now available across all of Shiner’s distribution footprint in 12oz bottle 6-packs and 12-packs. For more information on Shiner Beer and its full portfolio, visit www.shiner.com.
