Pizza Port Meet The Brewer & Tasting @ Apex

Pizza Port

Brewpublic just caught wind of a very special upcoming “Drink The Beer” night at Apex Bar in Southeast Portland. Apex founder Jesse McCann and company welcome award winning, nationally acclaimed Pizza Port of Carlsbad, California and their brewmaster Jeff Bagby to town, as well as some other talented PP brewers and staff.

McCann says “My friend Jeff Bagby, head brewer at Pizza Port Carlsbad, is coming up for a visit a long with his three assistant brewers and one of the owners of Pizza Port,” adding “They were nice enough to send ten of their delicious and award winning beers up for an awesome night of liquid sunshine on tap at Apex.”

This unique opportunity to taste the choice brews of Pizza Port will be held on Wednesday, January 26th, from 5 to 9PM at Apex.

Here’s a list of what will be served:

Welcome Back Wipeout IPA – 8.4% Imperial IPA.  New and improved version of Wipeout (from PP Carlsbad)

I-5 Brown – A 9.7% Imperial Brown ale that Matt from Oakshire came down and brewed with us.  American hops come through but there is a lot of brown ale goodness.  Sneaky beer. (from PP C’bad)

Pseudo IPA – 6.7% American style IPA.  Gold at GABF 2010.  Noah’s little creation.  Some guy sitting at the bar in SC told one of the bartenders that Noah was a “pseudo brewer” because he didn’t have a homebrew background.  (from PP San Clemente)

Where’s My Light Saber Stout – 4.1% Irish style dry stout.  NITRO POUR.  (from Pizza Port Ocean Beach)

Pier Rat Porter – 5.7% Robust Porter.  A great American porter. (PP SC)

Nickel Bag – 10.0% Imperial IPA. Originally made by Tom Nickel at Pizza Port Carlsbad while he was helping out with the brewing before I came on.  Thus the Nickel & Bag part of the name.  Yiga, our Head Brewer in Ocean Beach decided to ask Tom if he wanted to make it again for Tom’s O’Brien’s anniversary this year.  So they did.  I beleive it will be much better than the last version.  (from PP Ocean Beach)

Barrel Aged Night Rider Imperial Stout – 10.2% Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrel with cacao nibs (PP cbad)

Faceplant – 11% Belgian style pale strong.  White lightning here.  It’ll getcha! (PP San Clemente)

Rhino Chaser – 9.5% Imperial Red (PP Ocean Beach)

Santa’s Little Helper – 9.0% Imperial Stout. (Pizza Port Solana Beach)

McCann is righteously excited about this one-of-a-kind event saying “Jeff (Bagby) won numerous awards this year at GABF, including Alpha King (his second time!).”

…also:  The following week at APEX, Geno Acevedo, Founder and Head Brewer at El Toro Brewing in Morgan Hill, CA will be visiting with 9 (hopefully!) of his great beers on tap.  This will be going down on Thursday, February 3rd, also from 5 to 9PM.  McCann adds “What can I say?  When it rains great beer, it pours at Apex.”
