December 31st 2011 is celebratory for many reasons this year, obviously it is the evening we ring in the new year but it also serves as the Anniversary of The New School who this year will be celebrating their 2nd year alongside Burnside Brewing who will be having their 1 Year Anniversary. To make matters even more interesting the combined party will benefit the Pink Boots Society and feature special beers by guest breweries with a portion of sales going to the non-profit PBS organization and even a brand new one-off beer brewed by it’s members at Coalition Brewing. Each hour from 8pm on we will also be raffling off schwag from the breweries including rare bottled beers.

Starting at 8pm Burnside Brewing will be pouring 6 out of the 8 special beers donated to The New School’s 2 Year Anniversary, the beers will be specially priced at $4 for a pint or glass with $2 of each sold going to PBS. The Pink Boots Society and Coalition Brewing’s collaboration beer of which yielded only a single 1/2 barrel will be on tap from 8pm until the keg kicks with other specialty beers rotated in as kegs blow. Almost all of the donated beers are in very short supply and should turn over quickly. At Midnight Burnside Brewing has graciously offered to tap the last only half full keg of their Gooseberry Berliner-Weisse that was barrel-aged and brewed specifically for a small release at the Portland Fruit Beer Festival early this year. The last remaining gallons of this beer will be poured free as a midnight toast for those who stick around.

In addition to the special beers The New School has put together raffle prizes including free beer schwag like Hats and T-Shirts but also special bottled beers like select Barrel-Aged brews from Breakside Brewery, Sierra Nevada Ovila series and beer books like The Craft of Stone Brewing, Brewed Awakenings and the first ever hand numbered special bottling by Burnside Brewing. Before it’s release later this year Burnside Brewing offers up the hand numbered #1 bottle of Neptune’s Wrath an ultra rare beer packaged in magnum bottles and limited to only 100.

Draft Beer List

1. Alameda Brewing: 2010 Siberian Bear Russian Imperial Stout
Brewmaster Carston Haney has graciously donated a keg of his kick ass Imperial Stout from his cellar that was brewed a year ago.

2. Breakside Brewery: Mystery Beer TBA

3. Burnside Brewing: Gooseberry Berliner-Weisse – Special Midnight Toast ONLY
A special barrel-aged version of Burnside Brewing’s tart refreshing seasonal Berliner-Weisse this one aged on very rare and expensive Gooseberry’s. Only half a keg is left in existence and Burnside will be pouring a free midnight toast with it.

4. Coalition/Pink Boots Society: Raspberry Chocolate Porter
Brewed at Coalition Brewing in Southeast Portland in collaboration with the Pink Boots Society uses all donated Great Western Malting Oregon Select malt and Country Malt Group donated hops with an addition of Oregon Raspberry puree and Cocoa nibs from Theo Chocolate in Seattle.

5. Full Sail: 2010 Old Boardhead Barleywine

6. Laurelwood: Cardinal Sin Quad

7. Oakshire: Very ill-Tempered Gnome

8. Portland U-Brew: Oak-Aged House IPA with Target hops

9. Upright Brewing: Dorham’s Dunkel
is being brewed in a traditional German style, with some malt forward flavors but remaining balanced throughout. Using the same Munich lager yeast as the Engelberg Pilsener and a mix of German and Belgian malts, this should be a fine beer to enjoy throughout January. Named after the underrated jazz trumpeter/composer Kenny Dorham, because the dunkel style just doesn’t get much love in Portland.
