Crux Fermentation Project returns once again this year with its Freakcake, a barrel-aged Oud Bruin style ale that is part of the brewery’s Banished Series. The Portland release will take place on Thursday, May 12 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Belmont Station when Crux Brewmaster Larry Sidor and other members of the Crux team will be on hand for the release.

Freakcake is described from the brewery as follows. “We’ve taught an old brown new tricks. The brunette hue is derived from roasted Belgian aromatic malts, and fruity esters are augmented by lemon and orange zest. For a further twist, Brettanomyces induced secondary fermentation flecked with sour cherries, raisins, cranberries, figs, dates, and currants for a mildly acidic ale. Enjoy this gift now, or for even freakier, age it somewhere dark for the ultimate re-gift.

Look for Freakcake to be pouring on tap at Belmont Station and the bottle shop will be selling bottles. The Cafe will also be pouring a few other Crux beers including Half-Hitch Imperial Mosaic IPA, Pre-Pro Lager and Farmhouse Ale.
