Lots Hoppin' at HUB
|Hopworks Urban Brewery is certainly living up to its name. The Southeast Portland brewpub announced today that they’re tapping four new fresh hop brews and have their winter seasonal, Abominable on as well. Abominable will also be available in bottles from the brewery. Check out what they are a-pourin’:
Gayle’s Fresh Hop Pale Ale
Named for the farmer who lovingly grew the hops for this beer, Gayle’s Pale is infused with the freshest hop flavor. Straight from the fields and into the kettle, these whole flower hops were picked specially for this beer and added in abundance. Mildly fruity, subtly floral and delicately herbaceous, this beer captures the true essence of the hop harvest.
5.8% ABV 12.5 Plato 48 IBU
Goldilock’s Fresh Hop Golden Ale
Our Fresh Hop Golden Ale has a delightful floral aroma and crisp citrus flavor that can only come from Cascade hops fresh from the harvest. Goldilocks, just like it’s name would indicate, has a bright, alluring malt flavor that is balanced perfectly with a light, crisp hop bitterness and 4.2% ABV. Not too malty, not too hoppy, it’s a beer that’s juuussstttt right!
4.2% ABV 10 Plato 30 IBU
Coming Soon:
Fest of Fury – Fresh Hop Oktoberfest
Our organic Fest Bier judo chops your palate with a fresh floral, fruity and slightly orangey hop aroma backed by a medium bodied, toasted caramel malt flavor. Brewed with 30 pounds of freshly picked beautiful Certified Salmon Safe Willamette hops from Goschie Farms (Silverton, OR), this fest beer brings back memories of Munchen while celebrating the hops of Oregon and will have us all cheering, “Eins, Zwei, Zuffa!”
13.5 Plato 30 IBU 5.5% ABV

This mythological beer emerges from the depths of our brewery every winter. Made with Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops and six organic malts. “Abomb” has a complex floral, spicy and citrus hoppiness backed up by just the right amount of malt sweetness. Don’t turn your back on the BEAST!

“We’ll be doing a special release at The Fixin’ To bar in St. Johns on Tuesday, October 5th from 6-9 pm” says Hopworks founder Christian Ettinger. “Abominable Winter Ale will be pouring from the Bike Bar on their recently covered patio, while the kitchen will be featuring some food specials concocted just for that night.
Our in house release will be the following evening, Wednesday, October 6th starting at 4pm. So stop in either night for a pint of this grizzly, delicious NW Winter Ale… or both nights! Name That Nano
Says Christian of HUB:
It’s time! It’s here! We received our nano brewing system last month, and now we’re ready to break it in! But first, a name! We’re opening up the naming to all Hopworks patrons in a contest of epic, (or, maybe nano?), proportions. Send your name suggestions to NameTheNano@HopworksBeer.com with ‘Name the Nano’ in the subject line. We’ll be choosing the winner on Tuesday October 12th.
And what will the lucky person get? None other than 1 year’s Mug Club membership! Already a member? Next year’s on us! Not yet a member, well here’s your chance to get the big pint, save on all those you’ve already been drinking and enjoy all the perks your barmates have been digging on since the beginning, (parties, merch, and the beer… the beer!).
So help us out, email in your name suggestion or grab a slip at the bar today and submit your clever name for our bouncing baby pilot system.
Wow.. I can see I will have to make an appearance there Tuesday… love the fact that those fresh hop brews are so sessionable… that means I can have a few with lunch. May just have to snag up many bottles of that winter brew too… probably make Jubelale look like hamms.
I’m with Docer – it’s nice to see sessionable and low IBU fresh hopped beers. I’m definitely looking forward to the Goldilocks and Fest of Fury.
Hey Angelo. I have heard some grumblings out there that Hopworks used freshly DRIED hops and not actual fresh or “wet” hops in ALL of their so called “fresh hop” beers this year. Can you provide any insight on that?
Jason, if by “rumblings”, you mean me, then that’s what Christian told me in an email last week. He said “I avoid wet-hopping as the beer becomes far to vegetal and tea-like.”.
Which explains why Hopworks fresh-hop beers are never vegetal or tea-like enough for my tastes 🙂
