American Craft Beer Week

American Craft Beer Week: I suppose some states, cities, and towns need this to get themselves amped up about the few quaffables in their neck of the woods. The idea is noble. I mean, who isn’t into having a week devoted to such a wonderful concept.  Here in Beervana, we celebrate Craft Beer Month each July, with the Oregon Brewers Festival highlighting the whole shebang. The idea of American Craft Beer week, as far as I can tell, is essential in places like Ashville, North Carolina and Denver, Colorado where good beer is produced and appreciated by a sector of hobbyists. While these places do show some notable pride in their craft beer production and consumption, let’s be honest–they don’t eat, sleep, and breathe craft beer like we do here in Beervana. In reality, every week in Oregon, especially Portland, is craft beer week. Still, if there’s a beer event out there, we’ll salute it and honor its glory. As discriminative as some here can be about beer–that is, separating the good from the great–we can still play along with this concept. Beertown.org, and tell me if this is incorrect, is affiliated with Anheuser-InBev. Those advertisements you see in “craft” beer magazines who so desperately need funding to go to print…you know, the ads that look and smell of a Budweiser product, and before you figured it out, you couldn’t really understand why a full-page ad would really advertise nothing… Anyhow, let’s raise a glass to another excuse to let the world bask in the Pacific Northwest’s craft beer glory. Afterall, where do you think those hops in their beers are coming from?
