F#?! Cancer! Chris Cavanaugh Memorial Benefit at APEX
Thursday, JUNE 30 @ 4:20PM-Close, APEX – PORTLAND
Sadly, Chris Cavanaugh, longtime local bartender and raconteur, who spent the past couple of years pouring beer for Seattle’s Elysian Brewing, passed away April 20 after a long and remarkably good-humored struggle with cancer (certainly as good-humored as one could possibly be). We will all miss him, and in addition to brewing a beer in his honor, we also wanted to think of other ways to honor and remember him. We held a Seattle memorial this past weekend at our Capitol Hill brewpub, and since Chris touched so many lives in the Northwest brewing, music and comedy world, we are also going to hold a benefit this coming Thursday, June 30th at Apex Bar in Portland.
Elysian Brewery is sending Raconteur Porter, brewed in loving tribute and memory of Chris. It was conceived as a clone of Yuengling Porter, a Pennsylvania brew enjoyed by Chris when he lived in those parts Kevin, Waylon and Dick came up with the recipe, which in addition to pale, Munich and Great Western C-15 dextrine malt has a nice chocolatey touch of Weyermann Carafa 2. It is bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished with a combination of German Northern Brewer and Cascade. It weighs in at 4.85% abv and about 25 IBU.
Other breweries donating beer for the event are Pike, New Belgium & Anderson Valley Brewing. All proceeds from these beers will be donated to the Chris Cavanaugh Memorial Fund.
We hope you’ll come out and raise a glass with us to say “F#?! Cancer!” If you can’t make it out, you can also honor Chris and many others by donating to your local leukemia foundations or blood banks.
