World Series Beer Wager

The best wagers always include beer. This year’s baseball World Series between the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants involves one such bet.

Should the Texas Rangers go on to win the series, SF mayor Gavin Newsom is promising to send Arlington mayor Robert Cluck a shipment of Dungeness crab,  Anchor Steam beer, Ghirardelli Chocolate, and San Francisco made Sourdough Bread.

Should the San Francisco Giants take home the Commissioner’s Trophy, then Cluck will send some famous Spring Creek Barbecue to Newsom (sounds like a better deal for Texas).

Inspired by the bet between San Fran mayor Gavin Newsom and Arlington mayor Robert Cluck, two breweries are supporting their baseball teams with a wager of their own!

Shaun O’Sullivan of San Francisco’s  21st Amendment Brewery and Fritz Rahr, of Ft. Worth, Texas’ Rahr & Sons Brewing will be toasting or roasting at the end of the World Series between their hometown teams. The two have made a friendly bet that if the Giants win, Fritz (not Maytag, Rahr) will take a photo of himself in front of Arlington Field wearing a Giants jersey and drinking a 21st Amendment beer. If the Rangers win, Shaun will do the same, by drinking a Rahr & Sons beer in a Rangers jersey in front of AT&T Park.

Shaun, co-founder of 21st Amendment Brewery, said, “We’re fierce fans at the brewery and are confident that the Giants will be this series’ victors. I’ve already asked Fritz for his shirt size and plan on sending him a Giants jersey today so he can get used to wearing it.”

In addition to the food and drink, both mayors are also promising to travel to the opposing city and wear that team’s winning jersey while performing a community service task.
