Pickathon Returns to Happy Valley, Oregon from August 1 – 4, 2024

This weekend one of Oregon’s most prominent festivals, Pickathon, returns to Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, Oregon for a four-day run. Taking place from Thursday, August 1 – Sunday, August 4, 2024, Pickathon brings together a fusion of music, arts, food, drink and culture each summer.

Pickathon was founded by Zale Schoenborn in 1999 and was held at Horning’s Hideout, just west of Portland. In remained there through 2004 as the festival found a temporary home in Woodburn, Oregon in 2005. Then in 2006 it moved to Pendarvis Farm where it has been held ever since, but with a few setbacks here and there.

The most recent being that the festival’s permit expired at the end of last year. Festival organizers entered the year not knowing if Pickathon would return for another run.

News turned positive in late February when Pickathon was granted a renewal of its Conditional Use Permit in Happy Valley. The renewal, granted by the Happy Valley Planning Commission, ensures the festival’s presence on Pendarvis Farm for the next ten years.

“We are thrilled to announce that our 10-year permit at Pendarvis Farm has been approved, and we can officially confirm that Pickathon 2024 is happening!,” says Zale Schoenborn, Founder of Pickathon. “Right from the start, we reached out to our neighbors, the city of Happy Valley, and our community in the decision-making process for the future of Pickathon at Pendarvis Farm. This led to an incredible response, with over 1,500 letters of support and a massive turnout at the CUP approval meeting. We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming enthusiasm we have received, and we look forward to bringing the best Pickathon experience yet to our community in summer 2024!”

With the festival secured for 2024 and beyond, organizers had little time to fully prepare for this year’s festival. But they were able to curate a great lineup of artists, including a few big headliners.

A quick glance at the lineup sees Australian indie rock icon Courtney Barnett, folk group Elephant Revival, soul revivalist Durand Jones, country rock mainstay Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and “Australia’s greatest boy band,” Vacations.

As always, Pickathon stacks its lineups with an array of artistic gems including fast-rising folk songstress Jess Williamson, “New York’s Next Great Band” (Variety), Geese and folk-pop bad boy Chance Peña. The festival’s dedication to presenting eclectic artists performing a multitude of genres across the four days, music fans will be thrilled this year with the inclusion of lo-fi’s Joanna Sternberg, New Orleans brass ensemble The Soul Rebels, and folktronica duo CocoRosie.

Americana has always been well-represented at Pickathon with its 2024 festival being no exception. Portland’s own indie star Searows, Texas’ country frontman Vincent Neil Emerson, and thermo-tinged Ratboys are folk highlights on this year’s roster. With 50+ artists to discover at Pickathon 2024, these acts are just the tip of the iceberg! See below for the full 2024 lineup and click here for the complete four-day schedule.
