theCompass Brewery, Winery & Distillery Locator App
|For those that like to hit the road and travel theCompass mobile application is perfect for those that like an adult beverage while doing so. This app is a winery, brewery, and distillery locator for North America. Establishments can be located and mapped using a radius search of the device’s location or by U.S. zip code. Users can also browse and map establishments by state for the United States or by province for Canada. All results can be filtered by industry type (winery, brewery, or distillery).
Currently theCompass database consists of 10,470 listings of wineries, breweries, and distilleries in the United States and Canada that provide tasting facilities. The data for each establishment is integrated into the device for easy communication, navigation, and social media sharing. Its the only smart phone app that combines all three industries, yet allows the user to filter based on industry type – for instance – displaying only breweries if that is your sole interest in seeking out.
From using the iPhone version of this app over the past week it seems to work pretty well. It was used successfully last week while in Bend, Oregon and then used extensively around the Portland metro area with similar success over the past weekend. The only drawback is when you are searching in metro areas the encompass two states such as what we have here in Portland with us bordering Washington. The database will only search via map one state at a time. It is not currently set up based on a mile perimeter as other search engines can offer.
Information on individual establishments can be accessed by clicking the applicable map icon or from the list view. This information includes the establishments’ address, phone, email, web address, a navigation link from your device, weather forecast, as well as links to the establishment’s Facebook, Twitter andor Pinterest pages. You can also share your experience at the establishment on various social networking sites.
The Android and iPhone versions are both $.99 cents each. Safe travels!
