PROST! Celebrates Oktoberfest with Brewing Competition for Charity

Nine local breweries compete for city-wide bragging rights

Prost! will kick off its first annual Oktoberfest celebration with a weekend of German bier, food, and music that will culminate in an Oregon brewers’ bier competition that will be judged by customers, critics, and local experts at the event. Working with the Oregon Active Foundation, Prost! and the winning brewery will donate all proceeds in the winning brewery’s name to the Urban League/Youth Employment Institute, an organization dedicated to promoting and facilitating achievement in the Portland Metro area’s at-risk youth; the money will specifically benefit the Institute’s Youth Explorer Program, which will provide opportunities to experience outdoor wilderness adventures for young adults in the community dealing with life-challenging issues. Prost! and the Oregon Active Foundation are very excited to be working together for the first time.

The Oktoberfest weekend begins on Saturday, Oktober 2, with an all-day celebration of German culture, family fun, and neighborhood camaraderie in the spirit of the authentic German festival. Prost!’s extended bier garden, which takes place on its outdoor patio, will involve the entire Mississippi Marketplace Food Cart Pod, situated directly adjacent to the bar. The 6,000-square-foot bier garden, 10 food-cart pods, and 3 bars will be open from 11 AM until 11 PM; the indoor bar will then remain open until 2:30 AM.

On Sunday, Oktober 3, as the celebration continues, nine local breweries will present their individually crafted brews for judgment in the Oktoberfest competition, to be evaluated by patrons and local experts. The winning brewery receives its own handle at Prost! for the entire month of Oktober, a trophy, and state-wide bragging rights. Patrons can participate in the judging by purchasing the entire range of each bier’s two-ounce sampler for $10. All proceeds raised during the event will be donated in that winning brewery’s name. Participating breweries include Deschutes, Widmer Brothers, Lompoc, Double Mountain, Amnesia, Heater Allen, Hop Valley, Golden Valley, and Hopworks Urban Brewery.
