Burke-Gilman Brewing Releases Slava Ukraini, a Collaboration Beer to Support Ukraine
|The latest brewery to brew a beer to raise money for aid in Ukraine is Burke-Gilman Brewing. Slava Ukraini, a Ukrainian Golden Ale, was brewed in Newman Lake, Wash. in collaboration with Whistle Punk Brewing and Precious Things Fermentation Project.
“All the owners of Burke-Gilman are from Spokane and we knew there was a large population of Ukrainian refugees there, so we thought it would be great to partner with two Spokane breweries,” Said Kenneth Trease, Burke-Gilman Brewing’s spokesman. “Collaborating together on a style of beer none of us had brewed or even tasted before was really exciting.”
According to research the three breweries did to create the recipe, a Ukrainian Golden Ale is a strong, slightly sweet ale with a subdued hop character. Some, including this collaboration beer, include coriander. “It’s a very distinctive beer that we are proud of and think will be very popular,” said Trease. “The best thing is we got to hang out with two of our favorite breweries from Spokane and make a beer for an important cause.”
Slava Ukraini, which translates to “Glory to Ukraine”, is only available for a limited time at all three brewery taprooms and proceeds will go to Ukrainian Red Cross and Spokane Helps Ukraine.
