Inaugural Double EE Cheese & Beer Fest
|The concept of pairing cheese with beer has been taking place for many years. Over the years there has been numerous articles, books and events that have highlighted the benefits of pairing cheese and beer.
Now comes the Inaugural Double EE Cheese & Beer Fest that will take place on Saturday, November 9th at Oregon State University in Corvallis. This exciting event will pair 20 cheesemakers and 20 brewers to provide the most tasty and enjoying cheese and beer experience available. And what better place to host this celebration than Oregon State University that offers their own programs of cheese making and fermentation science in their Department of Food Science and Technology.
The Inaugural Double EE Cheese & Beer Fest will feature a competition in the morning from 8:00am to Noon where 20 Oregon creameries will be paired up with 20 Oregon breweries to decide the best pairing in Oregon. Then from Noon to 5:00pm there is an afternoon festival where attendees can sample these pairings in an open market type setting. Tickets for each session are now on-sale and can be purchased in advance online right here.
Press Release Below:
Double EE celebrates two Oregon-made classics—bEEr and chEEse—that are fantastic on their own but DOUBLY delicious when paired together. This inaugural cheese and beer event is Saturday, November 9 at Oregon State University near the fermentation science program’s laboratories. Members of the Oregon Brewers Guild and Oregon Cheese Guild collaborate to ferment ultimate pairings between partner creameries and breweries. Double EE features a morning session competition wherein brewers and cheese makers present their creations–and story behind their inspiration—to a panel of judges including Cheese Bar proprietor and Best Cheesemonger award-winner Steve Jones and Janet Fletcher, food writer for San Francisco Chronicle and author of Cheese & Beer. The afternoon festival session allows for tasting the beers and cheeses and more in a farmers market style setting with products available for purchase.
Judging is encouraged to be based on the following guidelines:
- 25%- Quality and taste of the beer. Score 15 to 25 points. Extra credit will be given if the brewery debuts a beer for the event.
- 25%- Quality and taste of the cheese. Score 15 to 25 points. Extra credit will be given if the creamery debuts a cheese for the event.
