Fresh off last weekend’s two gold medal wins at the Great American Beer Festival, Oregon City Brewing will host the grand opening of its first satellite location, The Canby Beer Library. The grand opening will take place on Friday, October 18, 2024 with a party featuring DJ Lex Lurker from 5:00 – 9:00pm.

Nearly three years ago in December 2021, Oregon City Brewing began the demolition of the former Canby Municipal Library. The original goal was to open during the summer of 2022, but like with many major construction projects, there were numerous setbacks.

During this construction phase, the 11,000-square-foot building was essentially cleaved in half, with 6,000 square feet designated for the heated outdoor food cart pod and a permanent roof with skylights covering ample seating options. The 5,000-square-foot taproom itself is also split in half, and features a concrete bar and over a dozen tables on one side, with the other half consisting of Oregon City Brewing’s barrel-aging program. Future plans include adding stainless steel blending tanks and possibly oak foudres.

For the past week or so, The Canby Beer Library has been operating in a soft opening mode. The new taproom features a massive 51 taps, 45 of which will serve beers and house-made sodas from Oregon City Brewing.

These taps will be filled with the finest beers from Oregon City Brewing Co., including over a dozen award-winning beers on tap for the Grand Opening. This tap lineup includes 2024 GABF Gold Medal winners Doc McLoughlin and My Cerise Amour; Beast of Burton; The Barrel of the Beast; Coming To Fruition: Cherry; Dark ‘Vator; It’s A Trapp!; Lilikoi No Ka `oi; OC Light; Ol’ Beauty; Pipe Dream; Stout Lager; and Temporary Stairs.

Adjacent to the taproom sits the contemporary food cart pod that is home to seven food cart options. Look for Adelina’s Mexican Food; Alani Mediterranean; Zula’s Tea & Coffee; Blessing Bites Fish & Chips; Church of Smoke BBQ; Poundtown Smashburgers; and Esan Thai. Food cart hours vary and can be found at ocbeerco.com.

Keeping with the building’s history, The Canby Beer Library will maintain a library theme to the building’s aesthetics. There are book-themed beer display boards and taster trays Along the merchandise wall customers can purchase books from the Friends of the Canby Library Book Garden, proceeds of which will go to the Friends of the Canby Library. Crucially, this project has been funded in part by the Oregon Business Development Department and the State Historic Preservation Office’s Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant, and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
