Hellshire Day & Barrel-Aged Beer Fest Taplist Revealed
If you haven’t already made your plans for Zwickelmania you may want to consider heading to Oakshire’s Public House for their Hellshire Day & Barrel Aged Beer Fest. This fest is not for the faint of heart. This fest is one that will feature big, rich beers that have been lingering around in wood barrels for the past year or so.
Riding on the heals of Oakshire’s Hellshire III, a single-batch foreign-style stout aged for almost a year in Kentucky bourbon barrels, that won the Gold Medal at this past year’s Great American Beer Festival in the Wood and Barrel Aged Beer category will be the release of Hellshire IV. Oakshire Brewing will release Hellshire IV, the brewery’s fourth barrel-aged beer under the Hellshire label, on Saturday, February 15th beginning at 11:00am for $15 each.
Regarding this year’s Hellshire IV release, Brewmaster Matt Van Wyk said “This year we went into our barrel cellar and put together a blend of 3 different beers matured in bourbon and brandy barrels and made a blend that we really like. We started with Very Ill Tempered Gnome as the base and made something akin to an Old Ale or Barleywine.”
To celebrate this release and the craft of barrel-aging, Oakshire will host Hellshire Day & Barrel-Aged Beer Fest at its Public House, on Madison Street in Eugene. The beer festival will include offerings from Oakshire’s barrel-aging cellar, as well as over three dozens of barrel-aged beers from breweries around the country. Entry fee will be $15 which includes a Teku commemorative Hellshire IV tasting glass and five tokens (with additional tokens available for purchase). The fest will run from 11:00am to 9:00pm.
Oakshire will be pouring Hellshire IV, Hellshire III, Heavenly Oraz Burton, “7”- Seventh Anniversary Barrel-aged Baltic Porter w/ Tart Cherries, and Brandywine- Brandy Barrel-aged Barleywine. But the fun only begins here.
The other barrel-aged beers that will be served are ones you won’t see very often in Oregon. Some of these you may rarely see at the respective brewery’s tasting room or pub. Some of these beers have won medals at the prestigious Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer held each November in Chicago, IL.
