2015 Mt. Angel Oktoberfest Beer List
|Mount Angel, OR – Mount Angel Oktoberfest is proud to announce the beer selections for the 2015 Oktoberfest to be held Sept 17-20, 2015. This will be the 50th Celebration, and the biergartens will be bursting with flavor and variety. The selection committee worked diligently to find the best representatives of beer styles to compile offerings that will suit every taste.
When Mount Angel Oktoberfest began in 1966, the Biergarten was a single tent, offering a single beer – Blitz. The festival has evolved and so have the biergartens – there are now 4 biergartens, with unique menus with offering a total of 29 beers, 25 wines, 3 ciders, and 2 NA beers. The beers bring together wonderful, traditional German biers from Warsteiner including their pilsner, dunkel and Oktoberfest and Weihenstephaner’s Korbinian, Festbier, and a Special Edition Hefeweissbeir. Weihenstephaner brews this special edition once a year, with fresh harvested, un-dried Saphir hops, and it is then stored extra-long and cold. Mount Angel Oktoberfest’s Alpinegarten will be the only Oregon location to share this import from the world’s oldest brewery.
The craft brew offerings are headlined by some top NW brewers. Ninkasi has developed a dry – hopped lager to celebrate the 50th Mount Angel Oktoberfest named, very appropriately, Mount Angel Oktoberfest. This lager is light-bodied with a subtle toasty malt complexity. A distinct hop finish is achieved from a final dry hopping of Sorachi Ace. This beer truly celebrates Mount Angel’s harvest, all of the hops used for the Mount Angel Oktoberfest, were grown within 3 miles of the Festival. Look for the Mount Angel Oktoberfest in stores and tap houses, at the end of August, and in the Biergarten during the Festival.
Laurelwood took its favorite Kolsch and decided to fresh hop it, creating the exclusive So Fresh and So Kolsch Kolsch. A German style with a NW brewing twist, resulting in a crisp, clean, refreshing ale, with a light doughy malt, mild fruit esters and a wonderful hop aroma. This new Kolsch will only be available at Mount Angel Oktoberfest’s Alpinegarten and Laurelwood brew pubs.
Benedictine Brewery, one of the newest entrants to the craft brew world, developed their recipe at Mount Angel Abbey under the direction of Father Martin Grassel, OSB. Black Habit is a dark ale that is complex but approachable & light on the palate. Black Habit Ale will be poured in the Weingarten while supplies last.
The Biergarten menu will include craft brews by: Ninkasi, Hop Valley, Oakshire, Occidental and Fort George. Biergarten German imports will include selections from Ayinger, Radeberger, Maisel, and a radler from Schoferhoffer. BrightCider and OutCider from 2-Towns Cider will be available.
The Weingarten menu will include the Stammtisch IPL from Seven Brides. Warsteiner and Konig Ludwig German classics will be served in the Weingarten and Prostgarten.
The Alpinegarten German offerings are from Weihenstephaner, with a radler by Steigl, and craft offerings from Laurelwood and Boneyard.
These fine beverages will be served up with German gemütlichkeit, world class musicians playing everything from Alphorns to Alpine Rock. Join Mount Angel in its 50th Year of Celebration.
