Frédéric's Lost Arm Releases Today
|Today, Thursday April 28th, 2011, Sixteen Tons Beer & Wine of Eugene, Oregon will be celebrating the tapping of their first anniversary beer. Beginning at noon, this Oakshire-brewed beer known as Frederic’s Lost Arm (FLA) will be made available to the public. FLA is described as “a Belgian style Farmhouse Saison brewed with copious amounts of Iron Goddess Four Seasons Oolong Tea” Sixteen Tons co-founder Mike Coplin says the tea was sourced from Eugene’s J-Tea International. How did Frédéric’s Lost Arm get it’s name?
Frédéric Louis Sauser (September 1, 1887 – January 21, 1961), was a Swiss novelist and poet naturalized French in 1916. He was a writer of considerable influence in the modernist movement. During World War I he joined the French Foreign Legion where he lost his right arm and was discharged from the army. He became friends with Henry Miller and Ernest Hemingway among other notable artists. He lived most of his life suffering from phantom limb syndrome.
