BridgePort Brewing Bullpen Session IPA Wins Top Honors In A Blind Tasting

Bullpen Session IPA from BridgePort Brewing at the source in Portland, Oregon.

BridgePort Brewing Bullpen Session IPA was recently chosen as the “Taster’s Choice” winner in the August 2017 issue of the Oregon Beer Growler. This new session IPA was brewed for the All-Star Game between the Northwest League and Pioneer League that was held on August 1st hosted by the Hillsboro Hops.

Bullpen Session IPA is a little brother to BridgePort’s iconic BridgePort IPA and continues the brewer’s affiliation with the Hillsboro Hops. Upon ordering an imperial pint of this beer at the BridgePort Brewpub, our senses were hit with a floral aroma that leads to a pleasant up front citrus flavor that lingers as it works its way to the back of the palate. At 47 IBUs and sitting at 5.0% ABV Bullpen Session IPA is an excellent choice when it comes to a session IPA.

Here are full details about the Bullpen Session IPA from the brewery and the tasting notes from the Oregon Beer Growler Bind IPA Tasting.

Bullpen Session IPA Brewer’s Description:
A smooth, lower alcohol ale, this beer gives a surprising burst of citrusy hop flavor in the finish. We make a malt base using our Two-Row Pale Malt then add Golden Oats and Honey Malt for a smooth, slightly sweet mouthfeel. Then we add hops. We use Northwest Nuggets, Meridians and Crystals. Then we finish the beer by dry hopping twice with a combination of Citra and Meridian hops for a burst of fresh citrus flavor.

Oregon Beer Growler Consumer Comments:
With its seamless coalescence between nose and palate, Bullpen Session IPA is a beautifully balanced brew where hops and citrus are perfect partners — no competition here. The favorite of our tasting panel, the beer offers notes of crisp apple and lemon as it introduces a surprisingly robust body, which provides immensely satisfying hot-weather refreshment at the same time. Assertive without being overbearing, this brew is summer in a pint glass.

BridgePort’s Bullpen Session IPA was selected the winner in a blind tasting of six beers. Other breweries that were blind tasted included Coalition Brewing Serendipity People’s Ale, Crux Fermentation Project Off Leash Session IPA, Elk Horn Brewery SirBerlin, GoodLife Brewing Company Wildland Session Ale, and Hop Haus Brewing Sunny Bono Session IPA.
