Perfect Storm Hits the Oregon Coast
|
After taking home a few medals at this year’s Great American Beer Festival, Pelican Pub and Brewery of Pacific City, Oregon has announced that they will be selling two delectable seasonals on Friday October 30, 2009. The Perfect Storm (not to be confused with an Oakshire multi-hop beer of the same name) Barleywine and the GABF bronze medal winning MacPelican Wee Heavy Ale will both be available on this date. Garnering so much popularity and hype, the Perfect Storm, a rendition of the brewery’s Stormwatcher barleywine that has spent four months on bourbon, is available for pre-order; according to the brewery’s promotions, the beer is selling out like hot cakes…even at $20 (case orders by mail only for $200 for twelve 22 ounce bottles). No description is available since we’ve only received the press release and have not yet sampled the beer. More information to come if we try it. Here’s more from the brewery:
The Oregon Coast is famous for its winter storms. Exciting, tumultuous, captivating, their allure is unmistakable. But on rare occasions, there’s one both mighty and generous. Just such a one is what inspired The Perfect Storm. Based on Stormwatcher’s Winterfest, our English-style barleywine, The Perfect Storm spent four months aging in 1998 Evan Williams Bourbon barrels. Now at its peak, The Perfect Storm delivers flavors of deep toasted malt, bourbon and oak. The finish rewards with whispers of vanilla, toffee and caramel. Best enjoyed with gusts exceeding 60 mph.
The Perfect Storm was first released in 2009 and won a Gold medal in the Scotch Ale & Barleywine category at its first awards showing, the Australian International Beer Awards. I have a high res photo of the bottle, so just let me know if you would like me to send it along. The Perfect Storm can be bought on site a the Pelican in Pacific City or can be shipped. To order, please contact Ken Henson at ken@pelicanbrewery.com or by phone at 503-965-7007.
According to the brewpub’s PR company, the Pelican Pub & Brewery is releasing a limited quantity of its barrel aged barleywine on October 30. Due to the high demand of this beer, the Pelican has already pre-sold 60 cases and only 60 cases are left.
It’s offensive that they are charging that much. It prices out a lot of people that would like to try their beer.
Sorry to offend, Dudley. This beer is hugely expensive and time consuming to produce. I’m sorry that you feel the price is unjustified.
All I want to know is, can I get this is Arizona? Please tell me yes.
Good burp: If you call the Pelican at 503-965-7007 they’ll be able to let you know if they can ship there. My understanding is it depends on state laws. Good luck!
There are so many things wrong with Pelican right now, except the beers. The beers are great. The B.S. they’re pulling on distribution is what I would call offensive. We get nothing but IPA, gee thanks. When they released the Saison, etc.. a couple years back I, and fellow purveyors of good beer really got behind those beers. Then they pulled everything from the market, except the IPA, and then jacked up the price. I’ve emailed them to try to give and get some feedback, and got no response. Well, enjoy shipping your beer to all the people with enough money to add it to their stash of Abyss, and then re-sell a year later for three times the price. I’m not bitter or anything..
