Bailey’s Taproom & The BeerMongers Host Two Fundraisers for the National Brain Tumor Society
|June 11, 2016 – Portland, OR – Nearly three years ago Brewpublic’s co-founder Angelo De Ieso was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Since this diagnosis Angelo has been battling the effects of living with an inoperable brain tumor. He is one of nearly 700,000 Americans that has been diagnosed. Facing these daily challenges is a big battle for him but he has made it his goal to raise both awareness and funds for the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS).
For the past ten years the Portland chapter of the NBTS has been hosting walks to raise awareness and resources to fund critical brain tumor-specific programs to improve the lives of all those affected by brain tumors. The 11th Annual Portland Brain Tumor Walk will take place on August 7, 2016 at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The chapter’s fundraising goal for 2016 is $110,000. Last year the chapter raised $100,000 and Angelo’s Team Brewpublic was the top team raising nearly $13,000. This year Angelo has placed the goal higher at $15,000. With less than four weeks to go Team Brewpublic has its work cut out for them.
This week there are two fundraising events in Portland for the NBTS on behalf of Team Brewpublic. First up is when Gigantic Brewing visits Bailey’s Taproom on Wednesday, July 13. Then on Friday, July 15, 54°40′ Brewing and Upright Brewing visits The BeerMongers. Both events will feature two beers each with 100% of the proceeds of these beers going towards Team Brewpublic and its quest to raise $15,000 this year for the NBTS.
Gigantic Brewing & Bailey’s Taproom NBTS Fundraiser
Beginning at 4:00pm on Wednesday, July 13, Gigantic Brewing will visit Bailey’s Taproom to tap a special firkin of Half Pint ISA that is dry hopped with Amarillo hops along with a keg of VIVID Imperial IPA. 100% of the sales of both beers will go directly to the National Brain Tumor Society supporting Team Brewpublic.
Half Pint is an ISA clocking in at an incredibly drinkable 3.7% ABV and is hopped with Crystal, Cascade, Galaxy and Simcoe. Small but hoppy! Plus this firkin is dry hopped with Amarillo hops.
VIVID Imperial IPA = Wai-iti and Kohatu hops from New Zealand expand the superlative! Immerse yourself in the multitude of tropical and citrus aromas and flavors derived from these unique, intriguing hops.
Last year combined contributions from Gigantic Brewing and Bailey’s Taproom totaled $665 for NBTS. This year with two kegs organizers hope to blow this number out of the water. Bailey’s Taproom is located at 213 SW Broadway in downtown Portland, Oregon.
Bolt Upright Night with 54°40′ Brewing and Upright Brewing NBTS Fundraiser
On Friday, July 15 join Brewmasters Bolt Minister from 54°40′ Brewing and Alex Ganum from Upright Brewing for two special beers that are unique to this event. Bolt and Alex blended two beers, each in 1/6bbls that will only be available at The BeerMongers beginning at 6:00pm. 100% of the sales of both beers will go directly to the National Brain Tumor Society supporting Team Brewpublic.
“(We) decided to do up two different blends, one at 50/50 and another 2/3 – 1/3” says Upright Brewing owner and brewmaster Alex Ganum. “We both couldn’t believe how different they tasted and thought it would be cool to do two 1/6 bbls and have them on tap at the same time.”
54°40′ Brewing’s beer is a winter warmer aged in a wine cask; Upright Brewing’s beer is a dark saison with cacao nibs (the Upright Saison Bruges featured on draft in the winter) aged in a brandy cask. Bolt Upright x 2!
Also in attendance on Friday will be The BeerMongers house band, Bolt Upright. The BeerMongers is located at 1125 SE Division Street in Portland, Oregon.
All donations to the National Brain Tumor Society on behalf of Angelo De Ieso and Team Brewpublic will be matched up to $2,000 by an anonymous donor from July 1 – 15, 2016. So please come out to Bailey’s Taproom on Wednesday, July 13 and The BeerMongers on Friday, July 15 and help us reach this 15-day goal.
