Portland Beer Events Benefiting the National Brain Tumor Society

National Brain Tumor Society

Brewpublic’s founder Angelo De Ieso was diagnosed with a brain tumor almost two years ago and has now been dealing with ongoing treatments to battle what is currently thought to be an incurable conditions since his initial diagnosis came after a series of grand mal seizures. In late May of this year after learning of a specific group dedicated to eradicating De Ieso made it his challenge to raise funds and awareness of this disease that affects nearly 700,000 Americans. Once he was made aware of the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) and this group’s fundraising efforts to bring education and awareness to fight this disease he was wholeheartedly onboard.

Since beginning his fundraising efforts for the NBTS, De Ieso originally had a fundraising goal of $500 before quickly jumping that goal tenfold up to $5,000. But once this dollar amount was reached he immediately raised the challenge to $10,000. Today the amount raised is just over $2,000 of this goal. Thanks to friends, family members, and an overwhelming display of support from the local craft brewing community, De Ieso has rounded up around $7,700 for this not-for-profit 501(c) charity. How can one help join the fight? Please show your support and join the NBTS walk on Saturday, August 1st, 2015.

To join the walk, it is only a $25 donation to participate (participants receive a t-shirt honoring their sign of supporting the cause). NBTS would like all participants to be registered by the end of July for the August 1st walk here in downtown Portland, Oregon. Proceeds from the event go 100% toward supporting research to find a cure for brain tumors, public policy advocacy, and patient information to make sure the critical needs of the brain tumor community are met, through the NBTS.

To help push Team BREWPUBLIC to reach its fundraising goal of $10,000 there will be a few upcoming beer events around Portland to reach and hopefully surpass this goal. The first one will kick off today (Thursday July 16) at Bailey’s Taproom with a firkin of Gigantic Brewing SOLID! Hoppy American Wheat.

This will be followed up with an event on Monday July 20 at Roscoe’s Pub with Worthy Brewing and a special extra dry-hopped keg of their bold and aromatic Imperial IPA. There will be prizes and swag from the brewery on this night from 5-8 p.m.

Then on Thursday July 30 at 6 p.m., The BeerMongers will tap a one of a kind firkin of Amarilla Dry-hopped Sweet As Pacific Ale from GoodLife Brewing. These three events will all lead up to the walk for the NBTS on Saturday, August 1, 2015 beginning at Pioneer Courthouse Square at 8:30 a.m.

Sellwood Moreland Summer Brewfest at Portland U-Brew

Portland U-Brew Grain Brain Summer Session Apricot-Peach Pale Ale Benefiting the National Brain Tumor Society
Sellwood Moreland Summer Brewfest – August 7-8 – Noon to 10:00pm
Six local breweries plus four P.U.B. summer beers and local cider will be part of the 2015 Sellwood Moreland Summer Brewfest. There will be live music Friday and Saturday, BBQ out front, plus its kid and pet friendly. It will also be Portland U-Brew’s 4th year anniversary party.

Best of all, this year’s entire event will feature a beer specifically designed and brewed to benefit the National Brain Tumor Society. With the direction and leadership of U-Brew brewmaster Jason “Jay” Webb, Angelo De Ieso as well as NBTS Portland media and volunteer coordinator Jonathan Bebe assisted in brewing a summer session beer that will have all of its proceeds from the sale of this beer donated on his behalf to the National Brain Tumor Society. The beer that De Ieso and Webb of P.U.B. came up with is called Grain Brain Summer Session Peach Apricot Pale Ale. This beer features Pilsner and 2-Row Malt and Chinook and Citra hops to create this easy drinking session beer at 5% ABV and 40 IBU. Expect this beer to run out quick as it is not only for a good cause but also perfect for the anticipated hot days of August. The festival will be held in U-Brew’s back lot that has received a permit for this two-day festivity.
