The BeerMongers Celebrates 15 Years with 3 Collaboration Beers
This year marks 15 years of The BeerMongers serving beer fans of Portland, Oregon. Fifteen years ago, Sean Campbell opened the doors to The BeerMongers on September 5, 2009 at the corner of SE Division and SE 12th Ave. Then 13 years later, the shop and taproom relocated a few blocks away to 2415 SE 11th Ave. and has now made this new location a top beer destination in the Rose City.
Leading up to this 15 year milestone, The BeerMongers will debut a few new anniversary collaboration beers this week and the first one is tonight!
For this year’s anniversary beers, Sean wanted to focus on the bar’s personal relationships in the industry and really getting involved in the process of developing recipes. He encouraged the Mongers to go spend time with their brewer friends and make beers that they want to drink. Here are the stories behind each beer and the release dates.
Montavilla Belgian Style Dubbel on Cask + Cribbage Tournament + Briel’s Barbecue
Tuesday, July 9 – 5:00-9:00pm
Sean Monger got together with Michael and Jon at Montavilla to develop a Belgian style beer we could pour on cask. We came up with a modified ESB recipe and pitched some Westmalle yeast to add Belgian esters and aroma.
Michael and The BeerMongers worked together this year to develop cask programs at our tap rooms. We are planning to have other “non traditional” styles on beer on our cask engines. Perhaps a Helles? or a Sour? The spirit of adventure is alive and well in the Portland Beer Scene!
Duality Oat Pale Mild Beer Release + Astral Taco Pop Up
Wednesday, July 10
Kenton Monger got together with Mike from Duality to make a beer they would both want to crush with tacos. Kenton loves the interesting ingredients Mike uses in his beers. Relying on his culinary skills and palate, Mike at Duality is able to craft some of the most interesting beers in Portland. This beer is 4% ABV and has 30% oats and a mixture of Pacific NW malts. Gently hopped with a blend of noble and modern American hops. It has a significant mouth feel and gentle bitterness. This beer will pair amazingly with the bold flavors of Astral Tacos. We will also have a couple of other unique Duality beers on draft including Celestial Wheat and Mixed Bag.
And another collaboration beer will be a Table Beer that the team at The BeerMongers are creating with Kings & Daughters that is scheduled to debut on August 3rd.
Cheers to 15 years!
