Weekend in Beer – Beginning August 17, 2023
|Today is National Hazy IPA Day, not too sure about the need for this day, but if you are a fan of the beer style, this day is perfect for you! National Hazy IPA Day was founded this year by Sierra Nevada Brewing, as the brewer decided it was time to promote the popular sub-category of the coveted India Pale Ale. We’ll likely crack a can of Sierra’s Hazy Little Thing to celebrate!
Now on to some fine events taking place across the state of Oregon and a few miles up the road into Washington state. Yes, it’s time to venture out of the air conditioning as temperatures will begin to drop to more summer like weather for the Pacific Northwest!
There are beer festivals taking place all across the region on Saturday. Out in LaGrande, Oregon, the Eastern Oregon Beer Festival is taking place. Closer to home Brews for New Avenues is at The Redd while Kölsch Party will be held at Gigantic Brewing. South of Portland, the Wilsonville Brewfest returns. Then up Interstate 5 in Kalama, Washington, McMenamins will host the Kalama Harbor Lodge Brewfest.
Also taking place is huge milestone for the Sandy Hut, one of Portland’s finest bars. The Sandy Hut celebrates 100 years this week and the festivities continue through Saturday when High on Fire headlines the block party. Not a bad time to get outside for some stiff drinks and rock’n’roll!

Friday, August 18 – 3:00-8:00pm
With the devastation that we have all witnessed taking place across portions of Maui, Coin Toss Brewing is stepping up with a few ways to support the residents on the island. Coin Toss Brewing owner Tim Hohl is offering three different ways to show your support and below are the details.
On Friday, Coin Toss Brewing will be tapping a guest beer of Sunshine Girl Golden Ale from Maui Brewing Co. A portion of the proceeds form each pint sold will be donated to the Maui Strong Fund. Another option in supporting the residents of Maui is with every online Coin Toss Brewing order placed, the brewery will donate $5 to the Maui Strong Fund.
The final way to show support is bit more unique as the Oregon City brewer will be placing a large group merchandise order from Waikiki Brewing Co. that’s located in the devastated city of Lahaina, Hawaii. Visit https://wbcgear.com/shop to peruse Waikiki Brewing Co.’s merch and then email Tim at tim@cointossbrewing.com or let your beertender know what you’d like to purchase. Coin Toss Brewing will cover the shipping costs.
